Starting to look for a new laptop and am looking to purchase one at the same time Windows 7 will be released. I really like the Vaio Z-Series because of the battery life, size, blu-ray capability, and design (love the space between each key on the keyboard)...but at close to USD$3,000 I can't bring myself to buy it outright.

Question is will Asus come out with a comparable unit...or is there one out there now? 13.3", blu-ray player, long battery life, elegant design like the Z-Series. I currently own the W3J and its served me well over the past 3 years. While I can probably continue to use this model, I can't really pass up an opportunity to upgrade specially since my blu-ray collection is starting to grow. Price aside, I wouldn't mind buying a Sony but then the Asus service center here in Shanghai has been very customer friendly and I would like to buy another Asus if possible.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Hmm...currently there is the U2 (12.1"), U6 (12.1"), N20A (12.1"), R1E (13.3") and F6 (13.3") but I can't say how close this will match your needs. IIRC only the F6 and R1E has a blu-ray option but the R1E is a tablet and the F6 only gets ~2.5 hours of battery life on a six cell battery.

TheTraveler, where do you live? You can purchase a Vaio Z model for far less than $3000 but of course missing features such as a SSD and Blu-Ray drive and it looks like you do want a Blu-Ray drive in your notebook. You could purchase a $1800 Vaio Z and purchase an external Blu-Ray drive which is much cheaper than getting an internal one through Sony, best of both worlds.

Thanks for the replies! I'm not too into tablets, so I'll check out the F6.

I'm in Shanghai right now. Surprisingly only the non blu-ray version of the Z-series are available here. If I want one with the Blu-ray, then I will need to go to HK. Personally, I prefer the in-chassis blu-ray drive because I'll be watching the movies on the plane and having a separate drive unit would be a hassle.

    Thanks again!
