Hi--
Please forgive if this is a repeat post. I have a V6J, which I'm quite happy with--but unfortunately I must replace it with a machine that has a matte screen because the glossy screen hurts my eyes (some people have this problem, some don't).
I've looked through the list of upcoming (Santa Rosa era) Asus models, and I don't see any models at all that have matte screens in the USA. Just posting here to see if there is anything that I've missed in recent months. If there is nothing from Asus then I'll get the next best thing--a thinkpad with Flexview.
Thanks in advance for reading.
PS I'm not interested in aftermarket mods such as the ones available from geared2play or laptopsinc. Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with them, I just personally don't want to go that route.

Yah I understand how you feel, and unfortunately the US Market prefers glossy screens as appose to matte screens due to the benefits of glossy screens.
Yes the IPS screen on the V6 and the Flexview screen on the T60 were nice. However, Lenovo is not going to feature the Flexview screens on the T61 series from what I have read. So I also a little dissapointed in this.
How sure are you that you can't or don't want to use a glossy screen? Are there certain aspects like working outside that make you want to stick with a matte screen?
In anycase you may want to compare in your local BB glossy versus matte, you can still get great glossy screens, found in the G1 and V1JP, with nice viewing angles and brightness and contrast. -
Hi, thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately glossy just isn't an option for me, it gives me headaches whenever there are reflections on the screen, which is most of the time. Otherwise I'd be sticking with my V6J, which I otherwise like quite a bit.
It's too bad Asus isn't going to provide any matte screens... to me it seems like there would be enough demand for at least one model. After all, Lenovo, Dell, and HP all just released quite a few models that have pretty nice matte screens, so there must be enough old-schoolers out there that want them. Maybe the thought is that the old-schoolers won't buy a "new" brand (in USA) like Asus, and I guess that might be true.
In particular, I would love if when the F3SV-A1 arrives, it surprises everyone and turns out to have the same excellent 15.4 1440x900 matte screen that Apple puts in the MBP. I realize the chances of this are pretty close to zero, but I would be very happy!
PS Yeah, I know Lenovo is phasing out their IPS screen. If I end up getting a Thinkpad T60 with Flexview, I'll have to configure it well, since the next time I'm in the market there probably won't be any non-glossy screens at all! -
I believe the R1F is matte, although keep in mind it is a tablet pc

Here in Europe the V6 has matte screen. I know that

but you might consider getting a matte screen for your V6 from the asus estore and putting it in yourself. (will void the warranty though) I have for instance the HannStar HSD150PK14-B which is matte.
Or you could send it into service and request they perform the modification, maybe even keeping the warranty. Will cost more, clearly. -
Hey E.B.E.--
Thanks for the heads-up about the possibility of getting a matte replacement screen. I didn't realize this was something that was really changeable. I will look into it some more, thanks.
Right now I see the HSD150PK14-B online from a few different places, though not from the asus estore. The estore does list the IPS screen from the older V6V, however, and from other threads it appears that I may be able to use that. It is reputed to be a totally amazing screen, but it sounds like it is also glossy, so I may go for the matte one that you mentioned. Are you happy with your screen? -
It's not a very good screen, but it's not bad either. I've gotten used to it. It's clearly poorer in terms of viewing angles (especially vertical) and brightness than my M6Ne (also matte) -- although I'm unsure how much that helps you. Here is the spec sheet (attached).
You could probably get the IPS, I'm not sure however if it's glossy or not as I've never seen one.Attached Files:

just curious...
what makes you think its the glossy screen causing your headaches? -
I think the V2Je has a matte screen in Asia and/or Europe. Not here in the US though. V1J may also have matte screen in other markets. R1F has a matte screen everywhere because it is a tablet PC. I thought that the V6J was matte in the US as well, but evidently not so. I may be thinking of the older V6V.

We used to offer matte as an option on the z96j and also the v1jp which was kind of a hidden option, other then that we have not brought it back and i doubt we will. In the future we will try to offer higher resolution screens for certain models if such is possible

USA V6V: semi-matte (and only non-IPS)
USA V6Va: glossy (and only IPS!-- my reason for choosing this one)
USA V6J: glossy (and only non-IPS)
USA Lamborghini VX1 (both Platinum Core Duo and Gold Core 2 Duo Editions): glossy (and only non-IPS) -

Yes, the V6V is the only one of those with a non-glossy screen.
Any Asus models with matte screens forthcoming?
