Is there any chance of Asus offering a W3J-like system with a hi-res 1440x900 14" wide screen display? Or a 1400x1050 14" 4:3 display? I currently use a 15.4" 1680x1050 display and think the hi-res 14" display would be a perfect replacement. The W3J is nearly ideal, but I think I'd miss the higer resolution for programming tasks.

I was sort of hoping for the same thing, but based on their current offerings, it seems like Asus is pretty stuck on using WXGA on their 14" systems. Right now, the only 14" models I know of with higher res screens are the D620 and T60.

The chassis design is made for a 14" widescreen - so that's not happening.

The Z62j which is a boring chassis if you ask me will be offered in a WXGA+ and will be a custom system..... should be out in a week or two.

In terms of another regular ratio 14"....... the M3 series was out for years and actually started as the original centrino prototype by Intel and Asus..... great notebook, great seller for a couple years... but now that regular ratio format really only works in a 15" size anymore.... As far as Asus offering something like that, everything this year is widescreen (11" / 12" / 13.3" / 14" / 15.4" / 17"), with the exception of only the V6j at 15.1" regular ratio. That is *the* size for a professional office type system and probably the last regular ratio Asus will make.

I'm partial to the widescreen ratio after using a widescreen notebook for the last 3 years. If Asus produced a widescreen 14.1" or even 13.3" 1440x900 with a decent graphics adapter, I'd probably get off of the fence right now.

Another advantage to widescreen which has probably already been mentioned is that you end up with a slightly lower profile with the lid raised. On an airplane tray table, this can be the difference between usable and unusable.

It would seem that if Dell and HP can offer those hi-res 14" widescreens, then Asus might as well.
