Any good Asus 13-14'' Asus Laptops that are also meant for gaming?

I want something small and compact but still with a decent graphics card, atleast maybe a 330m or something.

Also, an HD screen is nice,

I see 13-14 asus', but only with intel integrated graphics cards...

    Thanks

The N82JQ is probably the best you'll find. It mounts a GT 335m, the same as the Alienware M11x.

First off, THANKS FORGE! True say, that is specifically what I am looking for.

I just wonder though; will anything else be coming out soon that would be better?

And I can't find a good place to buy online with a discount or anything XD

There was supposed to be a variant of the N82 which was going to have i5+optimus, but I don't think it'll make it's way to the states.

Try contacting Ken of GentechPC. Great rep for a great company. See what you can work out with him.

As for future models, nothing that I can think of. The models people are buzzing about are heavy 15'' and 17'' desktop replacements.

I've heard curious rumblings of a 14" Asus K42 refresh model about to be released that has a Geforce GT335M equipped, which is an improvement over the current model's GT310M.

::edit:: ah here we go, K42Jv-X1

lack of eSATA aside, if i was in the market for a replacement for my year-old N81Vp, this would probably be it!

Both of these laptops are delicious.

Do you think its hard to access their HDD's to swap for an SSD?

Also, my biggest gripe with asus is that they don't have super-HD screens. :<

    Those are my favorite XD

Other than that, Asus is by far the best laptop company I know.

On my N50vn, I had vista 32bit, then 64 bit, then I had windows XP, and now windows 7, never have transitions been so flawless. Drivers worked perfectly and I figured everything out with ease. Nothing goes wrong, no hardware problems... etc.

SO now I'm stuck between these two laptops.

I like the concept of an i-7 with a usb 3.0, but I don't really want to devour my battery and eat it up.

I like the concept of an i-5 430 for battery saving, but I don't think its as aesthetically advanced as the other one, its a little older looking/outdated design.

    Hm. Decisions decisions.

Do you guys think it would be best to buy now or in about 3 months? I can wait that long easily, just I don't know if it would make a difference lol.

One of the problems I'm seeing about the K42jv is that it only seems to have one 3.5mm audio plug, which means a gaming headset is going to be gimped. Also, the K42jv is missing an eSata port, if that means anything to you.

In the end, if it were me buying, I'd go for the N82JQ. I'm used to the sucky battery life of desktop replacements, so the shorter battery life of the N82JQ (in contrast to the K42) isn't a gamebreaker for me. Also, the N82 has both audio ports, eSata, and USB3.0.

So what we have is less battery life and great performance, or longer battery life for (noticeably?) lesser performance. It's up to you to decide. But, like I said, my vote would be for the N82JQ.

what would you say about the wait-age?

Yeah you're right, it really really isn't difficult to keep a plug near by.

Plus I can under-volt if I deem necessary

(If under-volting is what I think // it is for my phone (droid))

I just bought the A42jv (same K42jv). I love it. The esata and the audio plug doesn't bother me. (Who cares. Get a bluetooth headset for gaming anyway). I don't care about usb 3 either.

The G51 is great, but expensive.

A42jv (k42jv) is what you describe. Great laptop, partial gaming. And great price too.

    All depends on your budget.

My budget is actually much higher XD

Even a vaio z is within my range I've saved up so much,

I just don't want a vaio z because its screen is too thin and flimsy, I don't like the idea of having to hide my laptop//be stingy when a college friend asks to borrow my laptop.

Intoxication + 1/3 inch thick screen = :OVERKILL:

I keep trying to purchase the HP Envy 14 then getting pissed cause it comes with poor build quality horribly flawed and cpu whine// motherboard resonating.

ohhh... You should have said. Then the best laptop/desktop replacement out there is the Asus G73. If you don't care about battery life, this is the one to get.

You are correct about the VAIO Z. I looked at that one too. If you put one tip of your finger on the right top edge of the screen and the other finger on the left top edge of the screen and you pull one hand towards you and the other hand away from you to "flex" the screen, you can almost break the damn thing. Is as thin as paper. Makes you nervous, although the high resolution 1600x900 on a 13" screen looks awesome. Too small to be practical. For real work, you'll be plugging it in to your monitor.

    Better stay with 14-15".

Stay with ASUS. I saw the HP Dv4. The touchpad is unusable as they are trying to copy the Mac all in one clickable touchpad. You click it and the mouse arrow goes flying across the screen. HP is turning into bad Mac copies.

Stay with ASUS. I like mine more the more I use it. Best $1,000 bucks I ever spent.

Also, check out the G51jx if you go for the 15". The screen looks awesome for the high resolution.

    It's a Quad Core i7, 15.6" with 1920x1080 resolution (full HD 1080p), 6gb Ram, etc etc. It's a monster.

I saw it when I bought this one. That screen looks awesome.

g73 is a 17.3" giant of a machine. vents heat out the back. pretty cool stuff. fastest laptop period

g51. nice gaming laptop too. 15.6"

The N43 would be the best bet, is it available already?

If not the N82Jv - that is the dual core version - would suit Your needs well too IMO. You don't really need Quad Core for gaming, note the dual cores even outperform quad cores in some games, plus they consume less and provides optimus (or switchable graphics).

The Envy 14 is a no go when it comes to gaming, it's GPU is downclocked (plus it has other issues but I really didn't follow these discussion just heard it in genereal).

K42 is good too, but the N series would be better, the especially the N42 with dual core and a 400 series NVidia GPU.

I think You can acess the HDD via a control panel, so swapping it with a HDD/SSD would not be a problem.

Edit: The N82Jv is available, in the US it costs 990 USD (450M and GF 335 optimus).

Check out the Lenovo Y460, it's a pretty competent gaming machine with an ATi 5650 and switchable graphics. There's an NBR review of it as well, so check it out.

Hey Kiskapu, that sounds perfect- where are they available at??

I can't find any in the US...

I wish they came in black not dark brown, btw.

ALSO, the N43, anyone have ANY clue as to how long I'd be waiting for one of these? Weeks? Months?

I don't think I can wait more than ~2 months,

The last I saw was September (in Singapore) possibly October release, so yes you would have to wait, and because the N82 took so long, they could delay the N43 release in the states so they can sell more N82's I still have a pretty good W3J so don't mind waiting, but yes it is quite painful having to wait.

Oh I see, I'm currently leaning towards the N82JQ, I know optimus doesn't work correctly but I really really don't care much about battery come to think of it.

I don't like the idea of a quadcore in a laptop, but still I think it will help that I'm getting it from xotic pc, where I can have them put thermal glue to keep everything running cool.

Xotic PC I highly recommend (from what I've heard, no personal experience yet)

Customizing an Asus is always good news bears.

Also, when I talked to a rep, he said they are releasing the release date sometime around September. Well he said they would know when they would be out in September, but essentially that's whats up.

From the looks of it since it usually takes 6-8 months for Asus to update, the N43 probably won't be coming out for atleast another 3 or 4 months, especially to the US.

Now I return this forsaken Envy 14 and get back to beloved Asus'
