    Hi,
I plan on buying a laptop, probably the F3JM, I liked the spec. But I wonder if it will get Core 2 ??
I see Z96J or all 14" Asus getting it, but not the F3JM.
I also saw on Asus's website others model of the F3 series which already have it (F3JP : http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1358&l1=5&l2=26&l3=0)
are these model available in US ?
    thanks

(sorry for my english, I'm french :p)

This is the spec for Core 2 Duo F3Jm WSXGA+ here in Australia.
This is apparently a retail model, exclusive only to Asus Premier partners.

I got mine with 2Gb memory upgrade for $2599AUD (1,950.54 USD) at DigitalCity in Wynyard, Sydney.

well, the f3jv has only the 256 mb 7600 as opposed to the f3jms 512 mb 7600.

    So its a downgrade.

Next Id say that geared2play has the f3jm for $170 off right now, and with a 2 year warranty upgrade as well.
I dont want to waste my time advertising Im just saying this for comparison. Other dealers should meet this price.

So the price of actually buying a t5500 and putting it in yourself, throwing away the t2400 in the machine or actually saving it for a s96j type project someday is literally less. And you get the 512 mb gpu as well. You miss out on the mouse and carrying case.

    So Im trying to compare

I'm currently on a pre-order list for the A8Js. My ONLY hesitation with that unit is screen resolution. If I could get a f3j with a wsxga+ resolution screen (like the AU version) I would in a second.

Why oh why don't more of the NA models ship with higher resolution screens? The a8js has a wxga+ which is better, but 1200x800 on 15.4" (for the f3j) is rediculously low.

ok the machine you want is called the z96j

its only difference with the f3jm is it has the 256 mb x1600 vs 512 mb 7600

    it has the wsxga 1680 x 1050.

it has merom now. It uses literally the same chassis as the f3jm the differences involved are too small to count. in the us the higher resolution version is a built on asus model not a f3j model.

    Thank you stamar.
I've also considered the z96j as an option, I was going to bought it
But if the f3j is coming out soon, I dont mind waiting a few weeks

didnt understand that, what do you mean ?

asus laptops come in two formats.

    built on and ensemble.

built on is a barebones customizable and ensemble is boxed and comes packaged just one way.

the f series is an ensemble the the s or z series is a built on. So, as to not just be competing with itself instead of releasing the widescreen f3j series here in the us they only sell the built on version the z96 ( although different gpu)

however the f series and the z series are as closely related as it gets pretty much interchangeable.

I cant think of why you would want the f3jv i guess its called, over the z96j available right now. no redeeming quality at all....
