    Hi

    I've got an asus k43sv.
After the 1st firmware update, one month after the purchase, my dvd started "acting strange".
One of the problems, random dvd ejection was solved by other firmware updates.
But the drive being constantly accessed, like when i connect usb/external hdd, open most of media players, etc, was never solved. The dvd drive "wakes up" and makes the loud mechanical sound you can here when you restart a laptop.
Because it's being constantly accessed the dvd drive is failing (even notepad sometimes wakes up the dvd drive).
Local Asus support only formats and restores to factory defaults; they don't make firmwares.

    Does anyone has/had this problem?
I have/had other models (asus, hp) and this never happened. And for the 1st month this never happened with this model. Until i updated the firmware...

Un/reinstall the DVD driver. Driver glitches can cause strange symptoms sometimes.

Do you have another drive you could use for a swap just to make sure there isn't a problem with the ODD itself?
