For those who bought it, was it worth it. Any major problems? What are the minor problems?

You were asking about the V2 on another thread... are you sure you don't care whether it's a small 14" or a huge 17"? Because the G2S is large and heavy even for a 17" notebook...

I plan to buy a 17" which will just sit on the desk (I am waiting for W2S though) and a 14" for me to bring along on business trips.

You're probably thinking of the W2W. I've had no hardware issues with the G2S, although I had to reinstall Vista from scratch to get it working properly.

The system works like a charm, just a huge pain to carry around. The G2S will be a lot cheaper than the W2W. Simply due to better materials used on the W2 and the addition of a high def optical drive/5.1 speakers.

    A-ha :)

If it'll just sit on the desk, the weight is not an issue. Are you sure you wouldn't be better off investing in a desktop in that case?

If you want a laptop and care for looks, then maybe the W series is a better option.

Have you considered the HP 8710p? http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-Compaq-8710p-Notebook.4456.0.html

It looks very very nice. And the GPU is top of the line.

I got my B1 yesterday and besides some patience after trying the dvd recovery its fine. Lovin it as i post. Home prem works ok, not ultimate but saves you trouble with installs/upgrades. I have had only 1 crash, but i was burning a dvd, on aim, on mozilla, music, and loading cs 1.6; not like i wasnt expecting it :p Def get it man!

I bought it it. I've had it about a week and I love it. I think it was worth it. I've had no problems with it - other than stumbling around Vista which is new to me :) . The display is crisp and bright, the battery life is good, and the build quality is awesome.

It is a substantial machine and I really didn't appreciate it's size until I got it out of the box. Also, had I known that Vista was such a resource hog I would have ordered it through a boutique site and upgraded the RAM to 3 or 4 GB (note that 4GB would require a 64-bit version of Vista). It's still a fast machine as-is and I'm sure over time I'll tweak Vista, remove bloatware and turn off unnecessary services to make it even faster.

Beware that there are some games that run fine under XP but have problems under Vista. Don't be too quick to blame the machine in these cases. Careful Googling may reveal known issues with a game under Vista. I've only put one game on it so far (Archlord). After the initial install the game crashed a few times but once I changed it to run under Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode the crashing stopped.

Overall, it's a great machine. Just remember that it is a 17" laptop and it has a pretty big footprint.

Check my guide for Vista optimization.

You might want to make sure before buying up to 4GB that the chipset, motherboard, and BIOS support it properly.
