Does anyone know if there is an Asus coming out soon (next month at most) with a Turion processor and a decent graphics card (read Ati x700 or above, Nvidia 6600 or above)

Otherwise I'll be forced to buy an Acer Ferrari :(

If you haven't yet looked, check out MSI. I don't think they're as good as Asus, but they deal a lot with AMD machines and I'd take them over Acer I think. The 1039 in particular (Turion, x1600 256 MB) is coming out in April. I was inclined that way myself until I saw the W3j and asked myself if a Dual Core would 'suffice' for my needs. Short answer...heck yeah.

Just curious. Im an amd fan for desktops awsome chips. But why would anyone bother with a turion. especially now that the core duo is out its like s step backwards. It isnt faster than a pentium M doesnt get as good battery life. Doesnt run cooler. And has a crappier chipset to go along with it. its not even that much cheaper. its like wow everyone i bought an inferior laptop for the same price as a good one.

Maybe they really want the 64-bit compatability for future proofing or maybe they want the lower cost that is passed on for picking AMD. Those are the two reasons why I am seriously considering getting an AMD based laptop.

Plus, don't forget that you still get the "Cool 'N Quiet" with the Sempron line, whereas the Celeron M has all power managment turned off artificially to spur Centrino sales. That makes a budget laptop still worthwile.

we are talking about turion not sempron. I would pick a sempron over celeron any day. I not so much talking about budget systems. but there are lots of 1000 dollar and over systems that have pentium M counterparts for 100 bucks difference. 64 bit is still meaning less until vista comes out then it might be worth the upgrade but really its not something anyone is going to notice. but like people that bought the acer ferrari i just didnt get it why use the turion didnt make sence.

Steve - I'm the same way as you and Intel would kill me if they could for saying the same thing....... but I'm AMD all the way in any highend desktop... where as in a laptop, although the Turion really is a great cpu and probably better than the old Intel Dothan... right now the argument can be made for which is more important... 64bit or dual core?! However, more money is being put into the centrino systems and just about everyone out there, including Asus can really only afford to put the Turion systems in the old P4 and now, some of the older generation centrino designed chassis'...

.... Now, i've done some media centers with dothan cpus with a nifty socket converter that Asus makes..... but the new VIIV motherboards may change my practice there...

Well... I think I've told you I'm a huge advocate for liquid cooling.... honestly though, there are some systems I've built up that the watercooling parts would almost double the size of the system...... and for that reason the pentium-m is pretty nice..... you can get them to autoclock just like in the laptops and it works really nicely with a passive cooler... certainly a lot better than a P4 of an a64 does...

i love the idea of tiny media centers mac mini in size. but not much pc wise you could do for that. with storage array somewhere else in the house that have everything from dvds to music. liquid cooling is great but of no use in a media center i dont overclock them.

..... wireless/wired storage......... when you think of a computer, they're all different and you don't need a gaming rig hooked to your tv unless you're going to really game on it....... but it's amazing what you can do if you take a laptop mobo and make a chassis for it... :)

your right. The w2v main board would be perfect with its tv tuner nice dvd player size case in aluminum. but no DVI would kill it. Gaming on a big screen tv is a pain with the resolutions and crap formatting it for the DLP ugg just annoying. just hook up a 360 or something.

I was actually talking about something like the size of the W5..... I'm actually making one for my car... it's going to be built into the trunk with a remote display and also tied into my cars computer and stereo/nav/dvd headunit....

but I hate to be the one pulling a thread off topic so I'll stop... Right now it's Z92km or get something else...... Asus doesn't have any other details that are released right now about their future Turion plans...
