I noticed they finally got around to updating the Asus site, there's a W1Vc with an x700 card. I was wonderng if this is going to be a "built on" model that Justin mentioned a while ago.

Asus is NOT going to bring it in as an ensemble because with the same configuration it would cost the same price as the W2......... so they're just not going to do it. We're still not much closer to bringing it in as a custom system, although there is still movement in that direction...... I might suggest the chances are now maybe 10% it'll come in... but that's only because there's been more serious talk about it. We told Asus we'd see how well the W2's sold and try to gauge the amount of people who would look at the W2 but really want something a bit smaller...... so that's basically what I'll be doing once the W2's finally ship out..... I wouldn't bet on anything just yet though.

Thanks for the update. I wish the news was better though. Personally, I was looking at the W1N, because of the form factor and 15.4" screen. Anything larger is just too big as a portable machine goes imo. Then I noticed the X600 with only 64MB and wished for more. The W1V seemed like the perfect answer. It kept everything the same while adding bluetooth and the X700 128MB.

I can understand why Asus would not want to flood the market with these if they are similarly priced with the 17" W2V, but not every laptop buyer wants a big screen. That's one of the reasons for getting a laptop -- getting a smaller screen for portability. I guess it's Asus' own fault for not pricing the W1V low enough to get a better market for them.

The W1V has everything I want in a laptop right. However, even if I could find a store selling it in the US, I'm not going to pay $2500 for it. So, in that respect Asus is right in not releasing it.

Oh well, sorry for the rant. I wanted to say thanks for the update. I am a recent visitor to these forums. I think for now, I'm probably going to choose the Asus Z70VA instead. I might still go for the W1N, but I'm not sure I can get past the 64MB video card.

    Edit
I just had a question pop in my head. Can the video card be switched by the end user. Is this something even possible with the W1N or any laptop or it built-in with the motherboard chipset? Just curious.

The W1V has everything I want. The W2 is simply too big and I want that 15.4" WSXGA instead of the whopping 17"

How does it look for bringing it in as a custom?

I'm just going to go out on a limb and tell everyone not to even consider it. You can throw your hat in the ring and say you'd be interested.... but chances are still so slim that isn't not worth my time to tell people this same story over and over. Asus isn't going to bring it over as an ensemble and our chances of bringing it over as a barebone are still very slim..... no real ETA is on the table, if any.

Hey Justin, just curious if you have any new info on the North American release of the W1Vc..

It would seem that Asus is bringing it out, if you do a google search for it, various European websites are price quoting/taking orders and as stated in a previous thread, Austraila is getting it too..

Here is a link for the curious...
