Anything cool coming out in the fall with Win 7 especially in 14 or 15 inch group? The current laptops seem to be here and there. Plus, Vista doesn't help.

Most laptops come with a free coupon to upgrade to W7 now.

Check back in OCT. Win has not bee released yet, and the vendors are keeping close tabs on the new models.

Asus has never released a brand new product model in conjunction with a new OS release. It is highly unlikely that they will start that now with W7.

What is most likely is the usual 4th quarter mid-cycle refreshes of their existing products, which happens every year (as they always do minor updates every 4-6 months or so). OTOH, the new Intel cpu's are supposed to be slated for 4th/1st qtr release, so you may only see an OS update by itself on Oct 22 with the cpu updates being delayed until later....

Insightful topic and question, given nearly every Vista machine sold since June 26th comes with a free Win 7 voucher.

Perhaps your "look into the future glasses" aren't presently working?

All apologies, I'm not sure where these questions come from or if anybody bothers to read/search anymore.

PS. Be wary of cure all bios updates from promises made in one on one emails from a Notebook reseller. Chances are, they're trying to sell you a...

Let me re-phrase. I'm interested in buying a laptop sometime this year rather than immediately which will have a fresh copy of Win 7, good gaming GPU, and come in a mid-range size nothing bigger than 6lbs? Clear enough. I own a Dell laptop right now for 7 years, which is still going strong but lacks muscle in the gaming and wifi arena. I can't keep playing Warcraft 3, and Dell only has garbage GPUs right now in 15 and less models.

AND I was aware that the Win7 voucher was specifically for an upgrade, not an OS CD. I don't know if my previous searches were incorrect. Or maybe someone hasn't used the search function himself. Or did MS recently agree to give new owners 2 OSes without taking twice the amount of money? I'd be shocked. All information that I have come across leans toward upgrade only, which is a BIG difference.

If the all wise SteelersWorship can prove otherwise, I would be happy to get a link to a credible source.

They mail you a disk. And theres nothing wondows 7 will support that vista cant - at least nothing that would physically change the laptops.

What's the difference? Fact is you'll end up with 1 OS, which is going to be Windows 7, whether you buy now or later.

The day Windows 7 is released, all new computers will come with it preloaded.

My concern is specifically upgrading an install of Vista versus just having a fresh install of Win 7. I assume the upgrade process has improved since the days of Win98 to XP, but I would like to avoid a possible confounding variable in the process. Plus, I ain't itching for a laptop right right now and just seeing before if there is anything planned with the new OS release.

This will probably be more like upgrading from 98 to 98se.
