Has there been any breaking news on the Z71V battery issue? Any resellers get stock in? Last time I checked (6 months ago), some resellers said they would be getting a new shipment in from overseas. I'm hoping Asus comes through and doesn't say screw you to us owners (which I'm guessing is going to happen/already happened).

To be honest, I've been less than satisfied with this laptop. If I had to do it over again, I would spend the extra money money on a laptop that's been proven (Thinkpad). But anyways, any updates?

As I recall from a previous thread around here a while ago, PROPortable was saying that Asus has more or less stopped shipping the batteries and he hasn't been able to get any more into stock - Djembe might have some other details on that too, I think he's using a Z71 and he's around here occasionally. It's been EOL for almost 2 years now, and any battery you're likely to get might be nearly that old.... with the concurrent decrease in total available charge from sitting on the shelf that long. Still, you'd be best off to PM either Justin (PROPortable) or Eddie (Geared2Play) as they would be the ones to know current status of battery availability.

From my memory, the failing batteries was the major thing with the Z71 series early on; well, that and the screen "sparkle" that some people found annoying and impossible to live with. Not one of Asus' best whitebox offerings -- but they have expanded their Ensemble line now to include more budget offerings to fill the niche that the BOA line used to cover.

Maybe I've just been lucky or have a high tolerance for disappointment, but despite having gone through 4 batteries I really like my Z71v, and it's the perfect notebook for me. It's one of the few notebooks that seems to be capable in a variety of applications & games while still having a decent battery life, and it looks decent and has held up well. Basically, I'm a happy camper. But on to the issue at hand: the batteries are basically not sold at many places, but some are still available, if you look around the net. As I understand it, after Asus replaced all the defective batteries from 2005 with good ones from 2006, they had such a small quantity left that the supply must have run out, and it seems that they didn't want to order more or that they haven't ordered enough to meet the demand, as the Z71v was a popular model for several months after it came out. But that's just my guess. The e-store says it's sold out, but you could try calling Asus and asking them if/when more will be available.

As mentioned above they are discontinued however if enough people call them they will bring it in. It has been on b/o for about a month now. Same story for the whole year. Sometimes they are sometimes they are out. Just wait and call them
