Hi, folks!
I'm planning to buy a new asus notebook. I'm thinking of either buying: (1) asus k42jk-vx026, (2) asus k42jk-vx027r, or (3) asus ul50. Which do i think is the best one? (1) & (2) have good ATI video cards. As for me, I play games like dota, counterstrike, red alert. I understand that an asus ul50 can handle that. However, I'm also considering to try new games like call of duty, battlefiled, and left for dead which require higher GPU, and at the same time, I also want a lasting batt life since I do my presentations, school papers, and research in my notebook. I also want a HD display since I use my notebook to watch DVDs. Please help me decide on the best pick and fulfilling user reviews. Thanks in advance![]()

i have the k42jk-vx026. upgraded to 4gb of ram. i'm fairly happy with it.
that said, i have a few disappointments.
1. it feels cheap. well because it is cheap (for the powerful specs inside). i don't think you can find anything like it for the same price. i'm hoping this one will last a while.
2. the display is not that good. the viewing angle is narrow and the contrast ratio low. but don't get me wrong, working on this notebook is comfortable.
3. no dedicated mic input. there is only one audio jack and you can use it as a line out OR a line in. not both.
that's just about it. mind you, with the components inside you could do pretty much anything a mainstream user can do.
hope this helps. -

hi,
sorry for the late reply.
in my immediate circle of friends, the opposite is true. for every asus computer that conks out, 2 acer computers conk out.
personally, after reading some comments, online reviews, and stats about notebooks, i have stayed away from HP and acer.
if i have enough money and i need to buy a notebook right now considering durability and long time use, i would consider the following brands in order.
1. toshiba
2. asus
3. sony
4. dell
5. lenovo

Oh, yeah, thanks for that link. Regarding Toshiba, I know it's very durable but I have known 5 people who have similar screen wiring problems and discolourations of their Toshiba notebooks after for some time of use like 2 years. I think such problem is already becoming rampant and consistent in Toshiba's line of products, what do you think about this? Is there an updated source of that link you gave? What about Fujitsu? Thanks, again

hi,
your right, toshiba has ribbon problems. just this week my colleague's toshiba netbook showed discoloration lines. while my other colleague dropped his asus netbook, broke the case and the screws on the hinges but the darn thing still works perfectly! asus will be replacing the case but internally, the netbook is ok. if durability is your concern, i'd go with the asus.
or you can just go with your gut feeling. the specifications of the other brands are just about the same with the asus. after considering the internal parts, you can just look at the design. one thing that is also different: battery life. you should check that too. i get 3-4 hours from mine.
some comments from my experience. by the way, i'm a tech and system administrator of my department in the university so i've had many encounters with computers and laptops.
lenovo: excellent design and aesthetic. tough and compact casing, almost indiscernible keyboard flex, battery and and adapter might let you down.
acer: problems: hinge broke, battery died, the power port in the laptop broke.
i'm happy with my asus. i saw similar sony, lenovo, and toshiba models and both are at least 25% more expensive. but they're very pretty to look at.
Any user reviews on asus k42jk-vx027r and asus k42jk-vx026?
