The top of the Asus A8Js is very prone to scratches. Its just been a month since i bought and the top is infiltrated with scratches.
Is there any way in which I can prevent them??

Don't let it be prone to scratches

But really isn't there some sort of spray coating you could (safely) use on the lid?

I've always wondered because I have a few notebooks which get scratched too.

You want a way to prevent scratches??? How bout you keep other objects away from ur laptop...

You must be doing something around ur laptop that's causing this. I mean, it's not getting scratched just sitting on a desk. So how about u keep an eye on what happens near ur laptop while it's closed, or open. And when ur carrying it, place it in a sleeve.

It's like putting a laptop outside in the rain, and complain that water is getting on it...how bout taking it out of the rain

This would do the trick. I had one for my macbook and it works great, though its expensive for what it is.

    Anybody know any cheaper alternatives?

Yup, keep sharp objects that would cause damage away from your laptop while it's not in a bag.

    Free ftw.

    Stop using it. :p

Seriously, you are the one who can control the scratches. Be gentle with it and store it in a case/sleeve that is soft and non abrasive.

a8js gets scratches a little more easily than the notebooks owned by the people who advised you to keep pens away.

I mean the bag it comes with can scratch it if it comes in contact with the latches.

most of the scratches on mine came from the bag, the ac adaptor or the usb end of the mouse.

cloud_9: they seem to be the only company doing this, and for a broad range of products. I'm surprised that they had one for any ASUS or COMPAL brand notebooks; if there was one for the F3 series, I'd probably consider it. Nothing shouts resale value like "zero scratches".

My advice on this is to use it with respect; don't set items on the top of the notebook, or at least, keep a small hand-towel to cover it while you aren't using it. I've been doing this for the sake of keeping my lid fresh, and so far, I've had no scratches.

Also, there are laptop sleeves that various companies make for easy stow-and-go; so that you don't have to shove it in your case every time.

You can see if bestskinsever can make you one...or get a blank shield from them. A ridiculous amount cheaper for stuff from them.

place ur laptop in a safe location is the best way to prevent scratches. a prime location where nothing sits near it. that's what i do, and i have gotten1 scratch moving it around.

That's an awesome site. Half the price of the earlier mention, and you can buy a custom sleeve...only I found one at 9" x 3.75", which is way too small. They probably have one in larger size, if you ask. If I'm not mistaken, it seem to work like lamination? Cut out the film > cover?

I already have 3 "scratches". Fine lines but they do not have an depression on the lid. And a couple of blemishes too. And of course i never had anything in my laptop storage compartment, so i'm puzzled too. I never place anything on the lid either...

But I must tell you.Unless these skins are designed specifically for this laptop, they might[will] block some of the airways. And heat damage is much more serious than a few scratches.I'm afraid nothing can be done except extra care...

I took the plastic sheet off my old 15.4" Dell and put it on my A8js, it fit perfectly. Essentially it is a flat sheet of plastic (much like what comes to protect LCD monitors in shipment) sprayed with a gummy removable adhesive on one side. There are no airways on top of the A8js.
