Hello guys,
After looking at one of the ASUS N61JQ at a shop near me and being disappointed from the build quality in the sense that the keyboard and the back cover of the LCD have terrible flex. The whole thing feels much less stable and rubust compared to my 2 year old M50vm.![]()
I came to the decission of buying M60J, but now I have found many users complaining about this notebook overheating and switching off during normal operation.
Some people also complained that if you put power4Gear in "Quiet Office Mode" the whole device gets very hot since the fan is stopping and making the notebook overheat until it switches off suddenly.![]()
Has anybody here got an ASUS M60J or X62J and did you experience any overheating problems with it?
Please share your experience with respect to overheating issues as this will help me in my decision whether to buy this notebook or not.![]()
Notebook Journal.de a german site has a review on M60J and they also talk about this problem with P4G:

There doesn't seem to be a solution to your problem unless you can adjust the fan, or get a laptop cooler, and therefore have to deal with the annoying noise of fans making productivity near impossible.
Or you can try to sell it ^_- or maybe go back to where you bought it or call Asus and talk your way into a replacement or maybe a refurb of another model in the warehouse just collecting dust for a reasonable price ^^ -
Thanks for responce, but as I said in the first thread that I do not own one but I am planning to buy one in case that it does not have major overheating problems.
I actually don't know if the fan is load or not.
I made this thread to ask the people who bought it to share their experience with respect to overheating issues I read in some forums. -
Wait, you said the N61 had bad build quality!?? Please explain!

For me the notebook did not feel very stable and rubust. It felt a little delicate device.
The LCD pannel back cover is very thin. By just pressing in the middle with only a small amount of force this effects the LCD. When I pressed on it the picture on the LCD started to change colors.
For me this is not a good construction because if you carry the notebook in the back pack, there is a chance that the LCD gets damaged if some pressure comes on it due to the back side being not so rigid.
Furthermore, the keyboard especially the side with number block feels not very stable. If you press on it the keyboard is bending downwards with only a small amount of force. It felt like a ponge.
It seems ASUS used thinner material maybe to reduce the weight of the machine.
I compared it to my M50VM where the keyboard does not bend like that and you really have to press hard on the back pannel to see some effect on the LCD.
I love M50Vm but now I need something more powerful for my work.
M50vm never gave me any problems in the two years. It has a resolution of 1680x1050! Unfortunately, you cannot get a device with such resolution in 15.4" anymore.
I would also like to look at N71, but unfortunately no shop near me has it. -
Is it just me or do you fix this issue by NOT using the Power 4 gear and instead use the Windows power control?
Or is it BIOS related? -
If you are an owner of M60J can you please confirm me if this overheating problem also occurs if you leave power4gear in High Performance Mode. It seems that the problem does not occur in that case.
Did you experience any random switch offs during heavy loads or normal operation if P4G is left in High Performance Mode?
Your answer would be very much appreciated and it will help me to decide if I should buy this model or just stay away from it. -
I will not use the Power 4 gear because i had some problems with it when i had the ASUS M50VM-A1. I used the Windows Power control in Vista instead and had 0 problems with it. Will use WPC with Windows 7 now too.
Will report back to this thread if i have any problems with overheating.
Anybody having ASUS M60J/X62J has overheating problem?
