$2150 shipped with 2 gigs of ram & the DVD drive upgraded to a region-free NEC 6500A. The stock 512meg stick and Toshiba DVD-RW drive will also be included in the event you need to use the warranty.

My problem is I went from a cool running, DTR notebook to trying to get a smaller, more portable machine. I'm not comfortable with the palmrest heat, and asthetics and build quality aside, I don't like how the ports are laid out. There's nothing "wrong" with it, just found out the hard way that to me the con's of owning such a system are outweighing the pro's.

I liked the Z71V very much... I just hated it's garbage screen. If I couldn't had ANY assurance that a replacement screen would've been better, I would've taken it.

I like the W3V very much, it's a beautiful, quality machine. However, I don't like what I feel is a critical design oversite that could potentially lead to hard drive failure and loss of my important data.

You have to understand where I'm coming from here. My first notebook was a Dell. It was in my opinion ugly, and somewhat cheap looking. However, it worked, and worked very well with ZERO problems. No flex, no heat, and virtually no noise. That's what I've come to expect, and that's what I want. I'm not going to trade overall quality for style points.

I won't be selling any of the stock parts seperately, because I wouldn't want whoever ends up buying it from me to be without warranty coverage. I don't think that would be fair.

Going back about 4 years, I had a Dell Inspiron 8000. The HDD in that computer regularly ran at above the rated temperature. That was in the early days of SMART and people assumed that the data were not being read correctly. However, the HDD didn't die, so I hope the same applies with the HDD in the W3.

At the same time I am trying to figure out how to improve the cooling of the HDD without voiding the computer's warranty.

At present I have the black plastic sheet stuck on the palm rest (top) side of the HDD. As a result the palm rest is barely warm but the bottom of the computer under the HDD is quite hot. The HDD itself is currently only 44°C, so maybe this arrangement slightly improves the cooling.

I understand where you come from but I thought a geek like you should know that the modern thin and light lappies have desisgn constraints as there is less space for heat dissipation.Your comparing it to a old brick of a DELL is silly. It is like putting a V6 turbo in a subcompact and expecting it to run cool like Ford pick-up.

And why did you go for a stylish W3 and not a brick like DELL in the first place if you don't want to compromise quality over a latest style.

In all this you come out like a juvenile geek who cannot make up his mind and who needs a bit of a psychiatric counselling for his phobias.

    Thanks AuroraS for stopping this.
And I might add I am really getting sick of this kind of posting, you have a personal problem with someone then email them directly,or better still get over it and move on. Anymore post like this and I will have to start getting users banning.
