hey im getting the asus g1s, but i have to take my notebook to class everyday. I also like to game, so i figured 15.4 asus g1s would be good for carrying to class, and then gaming in the dorm, but i would like to see what others think.

for some reason i have been looking at the DELL xps 1330 as well...but tell me what you think about the asus g1s since thats the one i like the best

I don't carry the G1S around daily, but I've carried it a fair bit travelling. I'ts not ultra portable by any stretch and you know you're carrying it. the XPS1330 would obviously be a lot more portable and convenient.

Key question is what sort of games are you playing? If you carry it around to play WoW and Civ 4, then XPS1330 would be better, imho - but if you want to play current-gen (let alone next-gen) FPS games and some of the more graphically intensive MMORPGs (LoTRO, Vanguard, etc), then the XPS might lack a little punch compared to the G1S.

Are you going to college? I was debating between those two as well, and decided on the g1s because, unless you have an external monitor (which is kind of a hassle because then you can't use the keyboard or mouse on the laptop and need external versions of them too), the 13 inch screen didn't seem big enough for when i'm sitting at a desk and working/playing.

I carry it around to class... although I don't use it since I like writing things down and since my classroom doesn't have desks :(... but I do use it elsewhere

hmmmmmmmmmm ya im going to college, still deciding, but the asus g1s is probably going to win :-D ill jsut have to deal with carrying it around.

it is easy to turn the lights off right? i think i read you use the consel turn them off, but then i guess uninstall it since its not needed after that?

At the moment i dont play that new of games at all. Basicly i play warcraft 3, counter-strike, and poker.... lol so im still debating on 1330 or the asus g1s, but in the future i might want to try a new game out.

the lights are really easy to turn off, just open direct console, and click off, its a good idea to do so if you bring it to class as it could be distracting

I just got my G1s yesterday and am also in college full time. I'm kind of strange in that if something is going to break, I want it to break before I get attatched and dependant on it. I was a little concerned because there was some flexibility on the lcd when closed(especially in the center)

So that being said, the first thing I did after installing the software was to close the lid and set 4 full size college books (about 30 pounds) on top of the lid. I then moved the books around, picking up the corners and slamming dropping the books back down. (this was to simulate spending lots of time in my backpack being joseled around.)

I then took the books off and pressed really hard in the center pressing it down by at least 1/2 an inch or so. I did the same with all of the areas on top. I did this for another 15 minutes or so. Then i had a session of repeatedly closing and re-closing the lcd roughly.

After all of this the screen still looks perfect with no scratches or anything. The back of the lcd cover has a few scratches from the books, but nothing major.

The wireless antenna on this is incredible. My other laptop an Acer Aspire 5100 is known for having a better antenna than other laptops. In the upstairs, far corner room, my mothers Toshiba laptop couldn't get a signal at all. My Acer got a consistent, but weak signal. My Asus G1S got the same signal that I get in the same room as the router! Amazing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I only got 1.5 hours out of the batters. This is with the screen at 50%, and the processor turned down to 1/2.

Anyone else have problems with the battery life? Wish they had fuel cells out now, would solve the problem and then some.

I carry the Asus G1 to class everyday...doesn't bother me a bit. It is prolly like carrying an extra textbook. I mean it won't break you back but you will feel it, but it won't feel that bad.

I use the bundled backpack. It works great and is pretty spacious to carry other accessories.
