Does yours recognize all the ram?
also where did you buy your G1S, i dont know why alot of people ordering a ram upgrade on the G1s and it wont work.
the Asus G1s is the notebook ill be getting unless another 15.4 comes out in the next 2-3 weeks thats better. i like gaming and i need to bring it to class

The hardware should be no problem.
Windows, as long as it's only 32 bits, will only use between 3 and 3.5 GB of RAM. -
I think for RAM is enough ^_^ for now
My RAM only 2.00 GB, But its OK!

ya but people been saying, even GenTechPC said the Asus g1s can only use special ram, has to be micron brand. i wanted to know if this is true
-
huh? no it's not true. Any notebook supports any RAM manufactured to the correct specifications.
Anyhow how is this related to 4GB of RAM?
I agree with Imations that 4GB will not currently make very much difference over 2GB. -
heres the link GenTechPC says it only works with a special module of ram

This means I was incorrect in saying that the hardware should be no problem. It seems it is (either that, or the BIOS). -
Changes to 4 gb RAM, this expensive, this spectacular ^_^ but better no

ken simply said that the first module he tried did not work. he incorrectly adviced against kingston other then that he simply said his first try did not work which can mean any number of things which do not include compatibility issues with other manufs -

there is nothing strange about missing it on the first try and hitting it on the second. the module is not special just because they missed it on the first try

I want to upgrade my G1S to from 2GB rams to 4GB ram (For my 8600M GT, then he will be able to use all the 768MB shared memory )
BUT, I have heard people saying that if you upgrade to 4GB ram your video card doesn't automatically uses all the 768MB shared memory.... (So he thinks there is still 2 gigs in it) and that you have to manually do it....
Can you guys PLEASE help me with this?
Thanks -
Well, first you need a 64-bit OS..... -
I have 3 GB of ram and i have 60% free of ram.
Go for 3 GB of ram and if you can get a 7.2k hard drive. -

I'm using this ram below to bump up to 3GB and it works great with my G1s.

There are much difference between 2gb and 3gb? And why 4gb dont work?
-
1. Not much difference.
2. Because of hardware and/or software limitations.
If you want more detailed answers, I'm sorry, you'll have to do the work. Yes, the dreaded Search button -
I am planing to upgrade my 2gb to 3gb... can someone tell me if this is compatible with the G1s?
OCZ PC2-5400 DDR2 SODIMM (in 2gb module flavor)

Kingston ValueRam 2GB works.
3GB is no better than 2GB. Various tests in FEAR and CS gave IDENTICAL results. Returned the 2GB stick shortly after. -
ok well i just popped in my 2gb chip - so now i have 3gb total - and windows recognizes all 3 - BUT - theres not much difference at all - my vista experience scores stayed the same, my 3dmark scores went up a TINY bit (nothing to write home about) - all in all - not much improvement at all
what im wondering is this (and maybe you guys will have a bit more knowledge in this) - if i were to order ANOTHER 2gb dimm and slap it in - i know windows wont recognize all 4gb, BUT will they still run in dual channel?
basically - will i get the dual channel speed on the 3 gigs windows DOES recognize?
EDIT - also, is there a way i can manually enter in how much of my system ram the video card uses? or is that something that just happens automatically when needed? -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. Dual channel in notebooks isn't the same as desktops, the performance bump is less than 2-3%, which is negligible for the vast majority of applications. 3DMark scores of a tiny bit (i.e. less than 1% or so) are within the margin of error for run to run, and don't represent a true difference; scores have also been shown to be affected by system temp, combination of background processes, etc. As I have read, 3DM 05 focuses comparatively more on the gpu and '06 a bit more on the cpu, but none of them are RAM dependent to any great extent. Vista experience index is a marketing gimmick cooked up by MS in the basement, it unfortunately gives the impression that a shift of a couple of decimal points translates into a discernable difference in performance.
2. Dynamic vram is determined by the card only and is not a user-defined option, as far as I've ever heard.
3. Be aware that multiple users have reported an actual performance decrease with 4GB in the G1. -
Kricket: If it makes you feel better, 3GB of RAM probably means that the system will run the first 1+1GB in (asymmetric) dual channel, and the rest in single-channel mode.
But there'll be no real difference.
ClearSkies, I completely agree with your opinion on the Vista Experience Index. Firstly, it is misleading because instead of an average it takes the minimum. Secondly, the Microsoft assessment of the various scores is (excuse me) bulls_it. E.g., Vista runs smoothly with a GMA card that obtains 2.0 score, even though Microsoft says that medium-performance Aero requires at least 3 or so.
Anyone have G1S with 3/4GB ram?
