Anyone knows why M51SN-B1 has been discontinued? and which model will replace it?

Well basically it , I was going to buy this lappy cause it's really great on it's specs I know it's not Penryn , but otherwise it's fine, know I checked over at geared2play and says DISCONTINUED? how come. I checked other online places and it's sill on sale without any notice saying to be discontinued. I don't get it
. By the way does anyone know if 9500 are within the defective gpu's from nvidia.

It seems like the M51Sn-C1 is still available. The B1 model uses the older CPU, so I guess that could be one of the reasons it got discontinued. It might also be that the B1's are all sold out and Asus doesn't plan to using any of the older CPUs on their notebooks. Usually, if there are quite a few previous generation notebooks left in stock, Asus will offer rebates.
As for the defective nvidia GPUs, it's more than likely that the "previous generation" GPUs that they are referring to are the 8xxx series GPUs, so the 9500 should be fine. Nvidia did mention that there were heat issues, and my 9500m GS runs pretty cool even when overclocked, so I guess that rules out the 9xxx series :D

Hi sup, thanks for your reply, well I'm going to be in NY next week, so I was looking for places where to buy this unit M50sn, is there a big difference between this old generation cpu with the newer penryn or it's just power efficient and that's it?.
What would you do? I was algo looking for a nice lap around 1k with a 9500GS but I guess the C1 you're telling I haven't seen it in NY stores at all.
IS the m50sv-a1 really worth it ? compared to the M51sn ? .
OH forgot by the way I was thinking on buying an xbox 360 elite all about 175watts TEAM FDOU , would you go for it ? or wait for the new jaspers units?, I don't know what to do.. some tell red rings are gone with the new falcons and if you leave it well ventilated. dunno

Well, the review on NBR said that that the M51 seems to have a fair amount of flex. I can't confirm that since I've never seen a M51 in person, but from the pictures, it shows that the M51 has a different chassis from the M50 and the M50 is quite solid IMO.
Asus main venue for selling notebooks is still online vendors, so that's probably why you don't see many Asus notebooks in stores, and even if they do carry Asus notebooks, they'll probably be a watered-down version (ie Best Buy has the G1Sn-X1, which is basically the same as the G1Sn-A1 but with crappier hardware). If you want to keep it in the $1000 range, the M51Sn-C1 would probably be your best bet. If you could stretch your budget a few hundred dollars more, then definately go with the M50. I also highly recommend GenTechPC if you're planning on purchasing an Asus :)

As for the xbox 360, i would surely wait for the jasper if you can wait until Aug. My 360 is the earlier premium model, had it for less than 2 years and had to replace one due to hardware failure (most likely heat related). I've always kept it in a well ventilated area, so I believe it's got nothing to do with proper ventilation.

Sups you frogot to tell me if there's much difference between penryn and the previous generation cpu, I guess I will go with the m50sv you're right it's much solid. Do you know some good places for instore pickup in new york? manhattan area? or maybe you can ask somebody you know of :).
So you definitely tell me not to go with the new 360 elite besides being the falcon revision? it's not worth risking ? with previous generation not falcons it was a quite well known fact it generated extremely amounts of heat. dunno

The difference in performance should be pretty substantial, especially if you're comping the CPU in the M51Sn-C1 (T5750) to the M50Sv-A1 (T9300).
The only place I know that sells the M50 in NY is BToTech. I don't think they're located in the city, but you should call them and check.

For the 360, yes, wait for the new jasper unless you absolutely have to have one right now :)
