Just curious about opinions on this one....it's at gentechPC...don't know about the rest. I wish it had the intel 5300 in it though.
-
Yeah I saw that while I was surfed/bored, what can one even do with 6gb of ram?
-
I didn't order one, but as far as I can tell, the 5300 is just as fast as the 5100 for daily use, mainly because most of the service providers have a limited bandwidth. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in speed nor in range when I upgraded my U6V from the 5100. I think to truly appreciate the 5300, you will need an OC12 connection (622mb/s) and a wireless N router. Then again, a 5300 only cost ~$35
I guess if someone want's to run multiple VMs, then 6gb would be beneficial
-
EBoutique@ no 2 wire to 3 wire problem with the U6V re 5300?
-
no problems at all
The U6V comes with 3 wires, but only 2 of them are used on the 5100. The unused one is securely tapped to the wireless card label and the tip is capped with a plastic cover to protect the connector. -
Same as my my C90s....good to know then. I'll order it with the 5300.
-
This laptop really does seem to be a great bang for the buck.
It's a little over $2,000 and you get one full packed computer with blu-ray, 17" 1920x1200 monitor that must look amazing.
I really don't think it's that expensive for everything you get! I wish I could afford it lol
-
It's on my short list....
-
i like this laptop also. Man. But if I get this, it will cut into my N10 fund..... I want it all.
-
It really doesn't get any better than this spec wise and price wise. Even if you don't game, the g71 would be make a great desktop replacement as well.
-
Lol... Two complete ends of the spectrum, the N10 and this.
Well if you don't game, there are plenty of other (cheaper) options without the 9800m GS.
**** I should've gotten this. The G50V is basically a 17" laptop anyway... -
Well im looking at the new g50 and also getting a N10. G50 is nice but i dont want to always take at 15.4in laptop. Now a 10in is great and it will also be nice to hook up to my tv. Nice little HD computer.
I love the price of the G71 though. You get alot for that price. -
I ordered one from GenTech on Friday. I am a little worried about getting one of the very first models of a new comp though, esp given the issues people seem to be having with the g50 series.
-
Not many laptops can house 2 hard drives and have so many multimedia features. That's what I meant when I said it could be a great desktop replacement
-
It's pretty decent for the money, but I guess I'll go with a U6V siince my C90s runs all of my strat games perfectly now. Maybe another year....but don't hold me to that!
-
Asus G71g-A2 was recently upgraded to sell for the christmas season.
before this spec, it only had 4gigs of memory and ran on a 9700m/512mem vid card.
this new spec is a winner against sager 5796. dell, alienware will drop out before long if they don't comedown greatly in prices.
u can dual boot one in windows and linux with hd space. -
It's always that way...the C90s has been out a year and a half, but will still run crysis.....
-
Can you guys link the spec and prices of the G71g-A2 and the corresponding G50 versions?...
-
Does anyone actually know the current date that these will actually be in the pipeline? XoticPC had a delivery date of end of October, but are now showing 1st to middle of November. I'd like to pick one up for consulting work (plus games) at the end of the week.
-
here is a link to the a2

Nov 14 was what we have heard as the shipping date for these.
-
I just contact my friend who has access to the distributor in Canada, the system says it's coming between middle to the end of nov. Price is unknown at this point.
-
Looks like the best deal going to date. How's the Asus build quality? How are the LCD's PQ?
-
i've heard the same release date window.
also picked up that pricing of the A1 is about $2000, A2 is about $2250.
but so much depends on the Canadian dollar. if it keeps dropping the price will rise. that said, would hate to be in Australia right now looking for one of these. their dollar is 60c US! -
EXcaliberPC Company Representative
G71g-A1 (MSRP:$1899) and A2 (MSRP:$2099) are both scheduled to be released by 1st or 2nd week of November.
-
bring it on! such a pity the Canadian dollar is getting kicked in the nuts right now.
Anyone pre-order the 6gb Asus G71g-A2 yet?
