Is there anyone who has installed Linux on Asus notebook?

If so, how is your ACPI working (fan, Fn keys, hibernation, shutdown etc.)? What distros are you using?

I'm running now Knoppix 3.6 (LiveCD) on my Asus A2D, but fan (surprisingly it runs constantly, just like with XP [} :)] ) is not working as it should, even though I have asus acpi module loaded.
Fn keys work ok. I even got my Asus WL-100g wlan card working with Linux [:0]

I'm running Fedora Core 2 n my ASUS M6R! The function buttons work fine, the fan always turns (just like in XP) I use my Wi-Fi card. The only thing I didn't manage to install were the ATI drivers (my video is Ati radeon 9100 IGP) and the built-in flash card reader. Except that, everything is working fine, including the acpi

The companies should atleast give you the option of having linux copies of the drivers and apps that come with the computer (though not all exist yet). But sadly due to demand they don't

    I agree on that!

I bought HP All-in-One machine (scanner, copier, printer) about year ago.It was very frustrating to try to get it work properly in Linux.

I could set it to print fine, but scannig was not possible without killing couple daemons and starting few new ones by hand via text consol. And vice versa, if I wanted to print after scanning...[xx(]

HP is kinda "Linux friendly" company. HP printers usually work quite well in Linux. They should give drivers and printing/scanning utilities to linux users as well. (Gigantic Windows software came with my HP machine. It's such a big and slow piece of software...)

The fan turns all the time because the CPU is constantly at maximum frequency. ACPI will not change anything.

For kernel 2.4.x, cpufreqd + powernowd and for kernel 2.6 speedfreq adjust the frequency of the CPU depending on system load, giving the fan a chance to stop.
