I'd really like to see benchmarks and reviews of both the Asus A8Jp and A8Js, but I haven't found a nice comparison. Anyone know of a good article or have compared these laptops already?

There are a couple of mini-reviews/first impressions of A8Js users around, and some comparison on the Go7700 vs x1700 (A8Jp vs A8Js essentially comes down to video card difference) in the threads here. Try using the search thread for those keywords.

You know though the only test on an actual x1700 machine is a chinese language review of a machine with a t5500 that scored very poorly.

No owners of this machine have ever posted here or even seen them available for sale in china.

I know its for sale in europe but no owners yet or actual test. I think this machine is extremely rare

The two machines are unique to their own countries, so you'll never find a 1v1 comparison(unless someone imports it), best will be two people comparing here.

And in some european coutries (Switzerland and Germany, for example). I have an option to buy either A8Js or A8Jp, but I think I'll go for A8Js because of a better specs right out of the box.

i'm planning to get either an a8js or an a8jp, i'd much rather the a8js because it's got the t7200 2.0ghz c2d however i've been told that the a8jp's 1.83ghz c2d is also pretty fast, though i'm not sure how it'd fair with my needs.

nomi, if you happen to use photoshop i was wondering if you could also tell me how the a8js handles having photoshop (cs2 or whatever) open whilst also, say, webcamming with someone over the internet. i'm dying here..with my p4 2.44ghz

Also, in sweden (and europe in general) the F3Jp will soon be avaliable. There is a model with T7200 Merom in it, so some side-to-side benchmarking should be possible here. In about 2 weeks we will have both the A8Js and the F3Jp! :)

    Slightly [OT]

The A8Js in Sweden appears to have crippled specs, in that the screen is only avaliable with 1280*800 display. That's a shame I think. But maybe the 1280 screen is better than the 1440, considering brightness, viewing angles and speed? Does anyone know? And have any europeans seen availability info of the 1440 pixel A8Js?

Strange to see that Sweden gets lower-res A8Js.

    I'm getting my A8Js from Germany and it's high-res screen (1440x900), T7200, 2GB RAM, etc.
And I saw in other euro countries (Switzerland, Austria, UK, even Croatia) same thing: A8Js exclusively with high-res screen.

A8JS-4S009P/NOR - The Norwegian version have 1440x900 resolution
A8JS-4S009P/SWE - The Swedish version have 1280x800 resolution

The A8JS-4S009P/SWE is a bit cheaper than the A8JS-4S009P/NOR when you convert the currecy.
    16 995 Swedish kronor = 15 302.2858 Norwegian kroner

Maybe its just and typo in the spec sheet?

    BTW: Im from Norway

No doubt both models will have the same rubish hinges that go loose in a Mater of weeks.

come on ASUS up your game. Atleast put two screws in the hinge with a ruber washer to stop it getting loose!!!!

    Whops.. My bad!
Sorry, you are correct.. I did not notice that :p
I just looked on this site, and thought it was correct.

Hmm.. Let me have a look, all of the Norwegian webshops say that the resolution will be WXGA (1280x800) and not WXGA+ (1440x900)

Does this mean that the WXGA+ wont be available in Norway and Sweden?
This really do means that the specs are cripled.. noooo!

We just have to wait i think.. Maybe the importer have a typo in their specs?

EDIT: Norwegian ASUS site says that 1440x900 are WXGA

Maybe its just komplett has converted WXGA into 1280x800, even though no.asus.com says this: "14" WXGA(1440x900) LCD"

In china and the far east there is a version with a t5500 and 1280 x 800 screen as well.

this is not the european version though. If this helps you.

Oh this version was also on sale in canada this t5500 version. But based on the information in this forum it must have been imported from china hong kong and I cant understand how it could compete in price with the real version....

    Hi from Thailand.
Here we have like 12 models in A8 serie

It seems that there aren't that many people that choose A8jp around here
(I don't see much of reviews about it) but it seemed to be more popular than
    the A8js in Thailand.

Though, both come with T5600, not T7200.

    A8jp for me
