New to this TV Tuner gadgetry. I just wanted to get one so may be, I'll be able to catch TNT and ESPN for NBA playoffs. I am looking at the Avermedia AverTV Hybrid Express (HC80) card. My laptop will be able to handle its requirements (M50SV-B1), but I do not know what kind of picture quality I will get, and if those TNT/ ESPN channels would be available. I know it depends on your area (i"m in Baltimore), but I don't even have a basic understanding of it (is this worth it?)
Let me know.
Thanks

Quality is pretty much exactly like a TV. You get the same channels you would on a TV.

I would love to enjoy mine, except my G2S does not have one. Once I go off to college in a bit I may pick up an internal if available, because if my memory serves me correctly, my college has cable internet. Then again, it could be a figment of my imagination. If you get an express card one, post up a review, much thanks.

Wow that looks good Ken, do these tuners just have a video input and you have to send a signal out from your tuner or do they have there own tuning function?
See thing is I have Direct TV at home and our satellite only has 2 video feeds and you have to have a tuner to use the service. I do not know if a tv card will substitute as a satellite receiver tuner or just standard cable.
Chances are even higher that the satellite system registers the tuners they use and that even if the tv card could tune the right stations that it would be blocked, otherwise it would be too easy for people to get free satellite. -
It comes with a antenna you just connect to the tuner and you can watch the free channel.
THe antenna connector is a standard size coaxial connector, you can also connect you cable TV to it.
I am not sure if Direct TV allows you to just connect to the Tuner without using their receiver. -
thanks for all your reply. but let me get this clear, you can't get cable channels like espn or tnt through the tv tuner card right?
-
You get whatever channels you can get on a TV.
