I'm really eager to hear some reviews and opinions. From just looking at the front page of the Asus section plenty of opinions on the g50, but thus far I've heard nothing of the g71. Also anyone see the g70 with the 9800GTS?

Turn it on and let us know how it is - been debating a few and that's in the mix.

i'll try and get around to that tomorrow. my workspace here is a total mess -- didn't want to set it up, just to add to the clutter.

one thing: no big- Alone in the Dark sticker on the palmrest. the Blu-Ray Inside sticker seems to be arbitrarily placed (away from the cluster of other stickers).

the ROG backpack is much better quality than i expected. won't have to get get another case now.

and some nice touches: ASUS LCD cleaning cloth + cable tie wrap included. gaming mouse is branded with the ROG logo. checked the driver versions with what's on the ASUS site -- absolutely the latest drivers included on the disc. all i need is the latest laptop2go drivers and i'm cooking.

visually: it's like a muscle car (V6 = 6GB ram?), but not painted/styled to prove that it's "super-tuned" like the boutique boxes. very nice looking piece.

I've had mine for some days now. The first thing that I thought when seeing it, was that it's huge! - and heavy. Really a different type of machine from what I'm used to. The screen is really big and looks great. I've been playing fallout 3 - it runs great, but not on the highest graphicis setting. Red Alert 3 was very slow at higher resolutions. I have not updated any drivers.

One thing that I don't like about it is the red color. I would definitely get it in a different color if it were possible. Also the power cord is a bit short, but I guess it is not a big problem since mine is not gonna be moved much at all. Lastly the fan makes more noise than I hoped it would - at least when idle.

hey zeth: did you do a fresh re-install of Vista? if so, how long did it take?

yeah, it's a bit heavy. but if you can deadlift 300lbs, it's not too much worse. ;)

    Hi

I have had my A2 since Wednesday before Turkeyday. I am a n00b with laptops, but am tryign to get up to speed. So far the only issues I've had are 1 light being burned out in the front of the laptop (not a problem since I turn off as many of the lights as I can) and for some reason Direct Console 2.0 doesn't list the Turbo Gear thing. However there is some seperate icon for the Turbo, but it doesn't integrate with Direct Console like I have seen in pictures on the G50. I haven't used this Turbo feature yet.

I am happy to answer any specific questions if anyone has any about the laptop, but I am not running benchmark software right now.

Also any advice about partitions and vista, I am open to. I have read the threads on here, some are helpful, but I am a total n00b with vista and resizing hard drives.

I hope i can put up w/ the Red - I'm half thinking of having Xotic paint the red portions - anyone try that and how were the results? I'm not the most careful w/ laptops (use a stand but I try to be pretty mobile w/ it) so I'm wondering how quickly I'll have a paint catastrophe.

Short power cord FTL - I had a replacement sent for my W3j and it was TINY...I was really hoping for a decent size cable with this one lol.

No pics. Its the left of the two lights on the front, under the keyboard. I wonder if something happened to it when they swapped out the blu ray drive. Not a big deal to me.

^ i really need to find some time to turn this thing on and check it out!

i've had it since friday, but since i don't have my newly-ordered apps here yet, i don't want to put time on the new box when i have deadlines. the minute after Midway's Stranglehold loads, i'm in danger of losing three hours of my life.

Just ordered a G71G-A1 from BTOtech yesterday and the sales rep was very helpful! I can't wait for my baby!

Received my G71G-A1 in perfect condition, but in less than a month I started experiencing issues such as sound pop, LCD Screen clouding, and loss of touchpad functionality. I just RMA'd it, and I'm waiting for it to come back from a Colorado Asus repair facility. Lets see how they do, I'll keep you all updated.
