Long time no post. My V6VA is still getting the job done, but the age is showing (hinges are making the screen flicker when moving it, sound no longer works, slower than other notebooks), so I'm wondering if anything comparable has come out? My biggest likes are the screen (IPS!) and the general design and style.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. no ips
2. depends on your tastes
3. imo, not much
Take a look around GenTechPC's site for a pretty thorough coverage of what models Asus currently has. They've pretty much changed their business model from those glory days of yore and the V6/W series. -
I owned a V6va too and now, nothing compares. The UX series seems interesting though, but no IPS screens unfortunately. -
I'm in the same boat. I have v6va and I love the screen, but I'm wanting an upgrade in performance. I don't know if I can give up this screen. The Dell RGB screen interests me, but I haven't seen it in person.

Unfortunately lately ASUS has all but given up on business-grade notebooks and pushes more in the gaming and bang-for-the-buck sector.
So, no, pretty much no equivalent for the V6 or similar high-quality notebook from the same age. Not in build quality and not in looks, either.
But yes, having a look at GenTech's website will give you a pretty good idea of what ASUS does have currently. Also have a look here for an outline of current models: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=415256 -
That's really too bad. Excluding Asus, would there be anything similar from other manufacturers? I loved everything about it, build quality, weight, size, screen; just needs newer hardware.

Well at this point I would suggest you fill in the FAQ and make a thread in the "What Notebook Should I Buy" section. I'm sure people will have useful suggestions.
One possible successor to the V6 that I considered was the Thinkpad T400.
edit: Just to clarify the above are autolinks I am not trying to advertise anything here.[autolinks are bloody annoying sometimes]

I'm thinking of the UL30 now. What do you guys think? It's a bit smaller, but still has an excellent design and pretty decent performance.
Anything comparable to the V6VA
