Hi,
(first time laptop owner)
I own an Asus a7j. Its about 2 months old. PLease help diagnose the problems that i have.
Every once in a while, the laptop would not come out of standby. THe screen wouldn't light up regardless of which key i push. So, I would have to press the power button, but when i do that, it hibernates. Then i would press the power button again, and only then the screen would light up. This happens only every once in a while. Id say in the 2 months that ive owned this laptop, it happened 5 times total.
Also, i have my windows appearance set as "Classic" but every once in a while, when i reboot the desktop, the system would change itself into "XP" style. Its very weird but i cant diagnose it cuz it only happens every once in a while..
Both do not happen at the same time....Is there a hotfix for this??

Sounds quite odd to me... but the latter problem you described makes me think it's perhaps a software bug. I'm not sure if there are any hotfixes for something like this...
-
Go to the power options in the screen saver setting and uncheck "Require a password on wakeup"
To permanently set the theme to classic, turn off the theme service from services.msc. Run->services.msc -
This hotfix may help:
-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923232/en-us for description of problem
http://hotfix.xable.net/download/in...;20XP/&file=WindowsXP-KB923232-v3-x86-ENU.exe for the hotfix (MS doesn't host it anymore). -
Try to close the lcd all the way and open it again.

Not all asus laptops are like that having the prob. Try using fn+F7 to turn off/on the LCD backlight see if it works.
-
Otherwise, as a less time consuming solution instead of putting the computer into hibernation just put it into standby and wake it up by pressing Control. Takes only a few seconds.
And I agree with the comment about stopping the Themes service. In addition to getting rid of your problem, it will also release some system resources that are currently wasted on your system.
edit: to put the notebook into standby without access to the display, press Function+F4. -
A fix for this problem is to prevent the windows from turning off the monitor.
-
update bios.
-
Try closing the lid then opening it again.
