I know that amd made the X2's compatable with their single core motherboards, so can we expect the same kind of flexibility from Intel??? It would b nice to replace the p4 630 in my z81 with a dual core when i decide to upgrade.

I really doubt it, they are different, the P4 and what is to be 'Merom' such is Pentium M and the Core Duo. The Core Duo and Merom is more similiar, and theres speculation it could be switched around.
But don't get high hopes -
did you mean speculation that the merom will be swappable with the p4, or that the yonah will b swappable with the merom.
Cause if u meant the later, then there's nothing for me to get my hopes up about as i have a p4 630
I think that nbr recently published an article confirming that the merom would be compatable with the yonah motherboards -

londez, both p4 and pent-m cannot be upgraded to Dual Core.
THe Dual Core is said to be upgradable to 64bit Dual core (Merom)
Just stick with what you got until you can no longer use it.
Then you may possibly buy a new laptop in mid 2007 after alot of new technology has be released.
THis gives you 2 full years to use what you got
Thanks,

i don't think that z81sp can support dual core cpu, why??
For desktop mainboard, start from Intel945,Intel 955 and Intel975 chipset can support dual core cpu. They only support Prescott CPU such as Intel 865 & Intel 915G. You can check the z81sp's what chipset it uses.
Are there any dual cores that will fit into a z81sp motherboard
