Where are the ASUS notebooks being made? How about other brands? I think there is a corrolation between quality and the location of manufacture. Would you say this is true?

    They are made in Taiwan.
I think 90% of notebooks are manufactured in Taiwan.
Asus is exceptional quality though :asus:

It's partially true, but it heavily depends on other factors including what kind of product it is. I've seen really crummy Taiwanese products and top rate Taiwanese manufactured products. The same goes for any country although US products tend to be solid overall.

In general, the country where it's manufactured is only relevant if you're buyin something whose price/quality is questionable. I wouldn't question it for a high quality product.

Ditto...... most every notebook on earth are made within a 5 miles radius in Tiawan....... it doesn't make them all good and it doesn't make them all crap either.

... Asus makes the finest quality notebooks out there.... even if Asus didn't have anything else going for them (which they certainly do in performance, design and features for the money)........ they're build quality is top notch and that should sell anyone on Asus over any other notebook by itself.

Are you just talking about Asus notebooks? Cause I saw many Acers that said made in China and my wife's Fuhitsu says made in Japan. When I talked to a computer guy in Taiwan (I was visiting a year ago) he told me it's virtually impossible to avoid having any computer equipment that has at least some parts of it made in China as many Taiwanese computer manufacturers relocated to China (cheapest labor that speaks the same language as you what more can you ask). Only the most high tech stuff is still made in Taiwan.

... The US honestly can't even build good cars anymore and that dead on..... There isn't a laptop that's made in the US...... there's probably a good reason for it.

Parts of certain things could me made all over...... like intel is making their cpu's in singapore or someplace.... and parts that go on the chipset are made by whoever makes those parts..... like broadcom or realtek... whoever.

But those "built in ......" stickers are where their final packaging is done....... we could make more of a case for our custom systems being made in the USA than most companies can say they were made in europe or japan or someplace.

If you goto Futureshop or BestBuy or the equals in the US, take a look at the bottom of the laptops see where they come from, the cheaper ones tend to come from China, then Taiwan and the most expensive ones, Japan.

I think most cpus are now from Malay, and have not seen any from Singapore lately.

.... and you know what? Sony is made by Asus in Tiawan..... but they will be badged "japan" because that's where the final packaging is done and that's where Sony is located.....

.... in 2003 their were plenty of shipments that came from Singapore....... I don't know about now, but I'd take a wild guess and say they have multiple factories... anywhere that's cheap.

I dont believe that at all that the US cant build cars anymore. I think the US can build better cars than anyone example GT40. But the parts are made all over the world. Even new fords are built pretty well they are reliable and drive good. But its all about cost, a camry is a better car but only because it cost less to build it outside of the US. If they US built a car equal to the camary it could not be offered at the same price. Thats all it comes down to is cost the US can probably build anything better than anyone but it would be to **** expensive.

I agree with the idea that they can build them good....... it's just that they don't... they have to compete with cheaper cars from Asia and lets not even get into the whole union and healthcare thing.

The new GT is a prime example of what the US "can" do..... but everything else is really to blame because no one wants to spend the money to pay for US workers...... but those same people don't want to lose their jobs or get paid less...

... something has to give... But lets get off the dying US automarket.

note: camrys are built in kentucky. the only cars toyota imports are the lexus models, and toyota's SUV. Otherwise, toyota makes their cars here(Canada/US). Bulk of Honda's car are also US built.

Asus makes iBooks (and those hideous iPods as well) and Quanta (if I wrote it right) makes powerbooks.

some Fujitsu models are still made in Japan but i doubt everypart is, my Fujitsu was made it China and shipped from Japan, so it is possible that some companies still have quality control in there home countries,

and the auto's in the U.S. are so far behind other countries it is just a joke, just as an example, when Honda developed VTEC, the worlds first production Electronic Valve Timing and Lift system, (which they developed in racing) US companies took years and years and years and yeeeeaarrs! to develop there own system.

The GT40 is on paper a good car and it can perform but you just can't compare it to something built at a AMG Mercedes or Honda factory in Japan (where they build NSX and S2000's).

and Ford builds cars in Mexico, the majority of them, so do alot of other american companies.

it isn't cheap to build cars in Germany or in Japan so i really don't know what you are talking about, just building a factory in Japan is an insane amount of money, land in Japan is like gold.

the U.S. is just forgeting that innovation is much more important than copying all the other companies and innovations. i can't even remember the last time the US had a decent innovation in the car industry.

Hey guys... I currently live in Taiwan. I think all Asus laptops are made in Taiwan, although some of the parts are made other places. The motherboard brand origionated in Taiwan, and Asus started making laptops about 5 years ago over here.
