Hello, I encountered another problem with this G60Jx laptop. I have had this laptop since June of this year. It's doesn't really look serious but it shows up every once in a while in browsers especially like Opera or maybe sometimes Internet Explorer. But so far only in browsers. I haven't been playing any 3d games with this thing lately.

Even when reverting back to the default graphic drivers provided with Asus, and even with upgraded BIOS, I still encounter problems like this:

    and

I'm still searching for a solution for this.
I don't know if this is a browser problem, laptop, drivers, or else.

This sort of happened in a room that was not hot. (76 deg F)

What are your GPU temps though? If you don't already, install some temp monitoring software- it may be getting too hot. Hope that's all it is because otherwise it's signs of a dying graphics card.

Could be as easy as applying some new thermal paste though.

I am getting this after updating to 10.6
I usually get them before GSOD
it may be cause of the frequency I seem to get them only if on ATI Control Panel the powerplay it's set to maximize battery life

If that is true, oh god would I have to go through the hassle of RMAing this notebook computer.

As for the thermal paste, where would that be applied to on the laptop?

p.s. My laptop is an nVidia GeForce GTS 360M.

You'd have to take the notebook apart, remove the GPU chip, apply the thermal paste and put everything back together. Doing so might void your warranty, so i'd be careful about that.

Like aramis said, download a temp monitoring software and check your GPU temps, this will help narrow down the problem.

Also don't be discouraged by all the RMA horror stories your see on the forums, you mostly hear about the bad stuff happening. Last time i had to RMA, turn around time was 5 business days and everything was working as it should afterwards.

Please back up that claim with a source.

Unless you manage to irreparably wreck your system somehow while re-applying the paste, warranty will not be void by changing TIM. Only the CPU has a warranty seal.
