Are the ASUS laptops such as the ASUS G73jh-A2 be reliable and has a very good build quality that can last at least 4 years ( of course with good care from the user) ...

I heard they use cheap components parts .
Could anyone please clarify more on the issue to help me in taking the decision whether to buy one or go for a toshiba qosmio instead .
    Thanks in advance...

Since the G73 series just came out, it's hard to predict how reliable the laptop is. The G73 has a totally redesigned chassis, different from all the past G series laptops. However, given that the average laptop usually lasts 4 years, I'd reckon the G73 should be able to hold its own, given proper and regular maintenance.

who told you this? whoever told you this is not only a lier but should not be giving any advice. as david said it is too early to tell. The fact is that asus reinvented the gaming laptop here. Having a full ruberized shell and an awesome design this laptop is definitely underpriced. there is only 1 drawback here. the shell needs to be torn appart to get to the cpu and gpu. also it doesnt have esata.

Any comment on the situation with the ES samples going into your machines?

Depends on the supplier. I dont think so. 820 are not available in the north american channel but have been available here and there. 920 do not exist period. if you are refering to the customer who neged me he was offered a full refund and paid shipping to the usa from the UK. you think he took me up on that offer? why would he?

none of 4 major disits have them, newegg dont have them, intel says there is a shortage but websites who are known to advertise out of stock products as in stock, have them. give me a break. now read carefully their stock status and delete all the links you posted because none of them can get them before the end of the month.

I don't think the issue is that the ES cpu is inferior or anything like that. It is that you are not advertising it as such. If anyone has to go through Asus for a cpu replacement on one of your machines, they are going to get stonewalled because Asus will not warrant an ES processor. If you go to Intel's website, it clearly states that ES Cpu's are not for distribution and carry no warranty what so ever. To be honest, I think that what you charge for the upgrade is fair considering the work involved in getting to it. It must be noted though that you are putting an ES cpu in there, because the customer will have no recourse through Asus or Intel if it goes bad.

Also, from those link i provided it says that the items are available for drop-shipping directly from the manufacturer if they aren't in stock.

he cant go to asus for any replacement. our website clearly states we are your first point of contact for any warranty work. Have been providing warranty work on asus machines for 8 years now long before asus even used warranty void stickers. you are right the cpu is not inferior and frankly i dont care to check what chinese suppliers ship us as at this point i would not be surprised. Point being is we test every custom order the same way whether they had chinese import or north american. he was offered a full refund no expense.
there is no dropshipping for this cpu. it does not exist in usa for tray sales, not yet. it will soon. If you think that i got cought with my pants down i would urge you to think twice. Chinese suppliers dont just ship to us. they ship nation wide to companies who you are very familiar with. The right thing for me to do is to shut up. I have a rep for being upfront and i dont hold back what i want to say. If you want to rip me for doing something that is all too comon go ahead.

Sigh...Geared2play.com. I'm not referring to any negative reviews and how you responded to them. I just want to know why you are offering ES samples when they aren't supposed to be offered in retail.

This isn't what I'd imagine as good business practice, but you'd be quick to point out I'm no businessman. You don't deny that you do sell ES samples and since everyone is doing it, it's ok? If everyone is doing it like you infer, then we should just accept it as common practice. Like evensen mentions, it would be "nice" to know what customers are actually getting in their machines. Even if they don't know what it may be or how it may affect them.

Well, it's your business and people will continue to buy from you regardless. I guess that makes it ok then.

And if you go out of business? What is he to do then? This is directly from intel's site:

    http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-030747.htm

    * Intel® ES Processors are the sole property of Intel
    * Intel ES Processors are Intel Confidential
    * Intel ES Processors are provided by Intel under nondisclosure and/or special loan agreement terms with restrictions on the recipient's handling and use
    * Intel ES Processors are not for sale or re-sale
    * Intel ES Processors may not have passed commercial regulatory requirements
    * ES Processors are not covered under Intel warranty and are generally not supported by Intel

I'm not knocking you for selling an ES, but why don't you advertise it as such?

alot of things done are not ok Like i said i have seen worse things then selling chinese imports. They are happening right now and have been happening for 2 months by all our major competitors. I get hanged for selling chines imports while everyone turns a blind eye to what they are doing. worst part is that they are plainly advertising this and ripping off customers daily. you really dont have to look far to figure out what it is. I run an honest business. end of story.

The good news is i have been selling cpu upgrades on asus branded notebook far longer then most competitors. the bad news is that if anyone of us goes under the customer is left with no warranty. that is a fact. it is not something i hide or attempt to hide. Your warranty for custom units is on your vendor. i have been saying the same for over 5 years now on these forums way back when proportable was the source of asus branded notebooks who happen to go under years ago. The great news is the we repair more asus notebooks on a motherboard level then all our competitors put together.

I'm actually with Eddie on this...
He's always been very pleasant in my conversations with him and like he said, he is providing support for the processor he sold and it was cheaper than anywhere else...

BTW, do other resellers provide the box of the upgraded proc or its serial number so you can check authenticity?

PS: i'm no shill for BTO :p

these do not exist in North american channel. i was able to get a few and they vanished. If you are upgrading notebooks on the regular the only place to get them now is from chinese supliers. I run an honest business and have done more repair work in house then all competitors combined. it is a fact that whether you buy chinese import or tray cpu you have to go to dealer for warranty. asus will not honor warranty for any customized cpu. i make no effort to hide this. all our distis have them on back orders. all these distis supply the above mentioned stores. if the disitis are out so are the stores.

Thanks for explaining how you conduct business. If it is as common as you say, then I probably shouldn't get involved with the conversation any further. I do not wish to hurt anyone's business, and as long as you gave him the option to return it I think that should suffice.

i gave him the option plus offered to pay for the shipping 2 ways to uk and no restocking on a custom order and extended the return period 15 days. he didnt even have the courtesy to reply. just posted negative. i guess honesty is not the best policy after all. should have lied to him like most would

IMO , ur atitude is disgusting. Firstly, u put in an ES processor in the laptop when he has payed the full price for the real processor. Next , u try to defend ur actions which are clearly against the law. Thirdly , u don't even offer him a refund or replacement laptop with the proper 820QM.. I'm quite sure that i won't be ordering from ur company when i buy my asus G73 and import to the UK.

would like to finish this off on a last note. A company like newegg sells oem software to the enduser. they sell grey market cpu. clearly violating microsofts and intels rules. you want to hang me for providing something to the public which can not be obtained otherwise go ahead hope you can sleep better i know i can. why dont you do something more productive and go after companies that do lie steal and cheat

I won't comment about the pracitices surrounding the processor, custom work, or otherwise, because I'm no expert, and wouldn't consider myself qualified enough to do so.

But I can consider myself an expert in writing and rhetoric - and you, sir, create what we call a very negative "ethos" in your writing. You may be a very nice, amiable person, but through your writing, you convey a persona that is negative, and a bit of a bully.

I wish you well, but just based on the posts here, I will not be shopping from your company anytime soon.

Well, you can keep providing more evidence like this, but I'd advise against it.

I clearly stated that you may be a nice person, thus indicating that I do not know you personally - most of us here do not know each other personally, and have to make our assessments of trust, etc, based on what we READ. That's all that I was commenting on - the persona you PROJECT (not necessarily who you really are) is very poor.

But like I said - that says nothing of your bussiness practices, which I have no personal experience of, and thus cannot comment on that further positively or negatively. Just making an observation about the communication here.

This topic seems to have derailed significantly from the issue of ASUS quality, so I'll bring it back there.

I have (it's dead now, courtesy of an nVidia defect) an ASUS G1S and though it feels cheap -- i.e., everything is plastic, the lid can move around a bit even when latched, etc -- it's still rock solid. My video card frequently ran into the upper 80s celsius, and idled in the upper 70s. The HDD (Hitachi) also idled at about 40 to 45 degrees Celsius because of that. My Windows and Intel stickers have worn off due to heat and the rubber feet have come loose, but the thing was still chugging along just as well as when I first got it until the video card finally pooped out (not ASUS's fault).

Personally I think ASUS' build quality is quite good...at least for the couple of laptops that I've owned so far. First one was a G2S-2B and this one is a G51J-A1.

On a side note....I'll have to agree with the others here....I'll never buy anything from btotech.com simply because of their rep's attitude in threads like this and especially the first G51J BSOD thread. I just can't believe that they let this guy talk the way he does here....if I were his boss I'd ban him from ever posting on forums again.

It is a good thing i have no boss. You have said "dont buy from btotech" a few times before.

g1s and g2s both suffered from a case of "drypads". many other laptops did too. basically the thermal pads dried up and became heat-traps. this was made even worse when asus fixed the mainboard. it took them about 5 years to figure out "hey if we eliminate the thermal pad we can save our selves alot of money". this is why most if not all their notebooks now ship with a die to copper design instead of die to thermal pad to copper. Thousands of rma's helped them learn the lesson. That Smarts!
