Hi all, im new here, and you all seem like a very knowlegeable bunch so you have to bear with me :p

I have been looking to purchase a new laptop recently that has decent / ok performance, mainly in the games department - particularly games using the Unreal 3 engine (also software such as Maya and 3D Max possibly).

This is mainly for my current university course (in game design). While I already have a decent gaming orientated home PC (Q6600, 8800GT 512, 2gbDDR800 - W32XP), because of travel, and difficulty getting acess to a computer on campus, I have been considering a latoptop; Specifically an Asus (all of which seem like best hardware per dollar).

I have kind of narrowed it down to an Asus M50SA and a Asus G2SG, which are roughly the same price, about $2350 - Australian.

However im not looking for a particularly large laptop, as the G2SGs 17.1" screen seems a bit to exessive, however the M50SA's performance, particularly in the visual department (its 3650 1gb) seems to be a tad underwhelming.

So basically im stuck in a rut of which Laptop to purchase, and im a bit worried I may of missed any other models that outperform these - as im used to building desktop PCs laptops are fairly new to me.

Thanks for ANY replies, or help! :)

    edit*

Actually I dont really care what laptop is sugested, as long as its a decent performing per price laptop

The Asus M50Sv can also come with the 9500 GS 512mb DDR2 GPU.
Either way, the G2Sg is still better gaming wise, but both are equally capable of playing current games at decent settings. You'll have to choose which is more important to you: gaming performance or portability.
There are also a few other laptops that will outperform these two. Any laptop with an 8800 gpu will do the trick. Check out the Alienware m15x or the Sager NP5793

I'd defitnaly consider an Alienware one, the only problem is buying online and shipping. I'd honestly be more comfterable with buying retail. I might consider the M50sv with the 9500 GS, ill have to check up its performance - plenty of threads here, though yea im not really looking for an 'ultra powerful' laptop just somthing i can use as a secondary to my home PC.
    perhaps the G1S...

    EDIT*

Actually I was wondering which of the two would be better....

    Asus G1S, with the T7500, 2gb ddr2 667, 8600GT 256mb, 15.4"
    or
    Asus F8SN, 9300, 3gb ddr2 667, 9500 512mb, 14.1"

Both are well priced, although the F8SN is quite cheaper by a few hundred dollars, although my main concern of the two really is performance.

    Thanks!

The G2sg comes with an 8700gt which is one of the better video cards out there. It will outperform the 9500gs by a very noticeable margin and do the same to a 3650. If you can afford it, I recommend that.

Seems to be a bit out of my price range, looks like i'll have to look for somthing more around the 2 grand mark.

You said in your first post it was one of your options...
