I'm a big Asus fan thanks to their mobos, so I naturally started to look into their laptops now that the time has come to buy one. As a matter of fact I also got my g/f hooked on these and she will probably get the v6v in the next couple of days (justin's smiling [ :D])... Anyways, I've been reading up on notebooks like crazy for the past couple of months, and I've been quite impressed (as much as I can be without getting my hands on them) with what Asus makes. (Although it gets harder and more confusing to make any sense of all their models and makes and versions and what's available or not... argh). So currently something from Asus would be my second choice after Toughbook 51.

Couple Qs: (and yes I'm obssesed with little details [ :)])

---> my fav peeve about notebooks is always the kbrd layout. especially the freakin' FN key. to me it should be somewhere completely away from the main kbrd (like above ESC or with the multimedia/mail/wireless keys), but if it has to be [ :(!] where everyone puts it I at least want to have the Ctrl on the very left... now of course all the Asus lappies have that all 'wrong' - anything that can be done about that ?

/rant/ this I think could easily be an option to switch the 2 keys the way you prefer to have them /end rant/

---> i hate high resolutions on small displays... ie. anything more than 1024x768 on 15" or 1280x800 on 15.4" widescreen is just retarded to me. I don't know what kind of eyesight do some people have but... And no, using large fonts doesn't fix everything. So anyways, is it possible to get the new v6v's and z71's and such with 1024x768 15" screens ?

---> would anyone happen to know some good stores in Detroit(and or just north of) area that sell Asus (and possibly other brands, not the hps, toshibas and compaqs that the big chains sell) so one can go take a look in person ?

lol are you serious? 1024 x 768 is not small at all, neither is 1280 x 800. I think you've just admitted that you need glasses big time.

Have you ever placed side by side of 14.1" or 15" LCD screens with resolutions 1024x768 and 1400x1050? Once you have done it, you will never go back to 1024x768 for any LCD larger than 14.1". That's my experience with IBM Thinkpad's T23 and T40.

The V6v has a very nice 15" LCD with the native SXGA+ (1400x1050) resolution, it definitely looks beter that those with smaller 14" screen. The 1024x768 is still perfect for 12" or 10" screens IMHO.

V6 - no swappable bay battery or hard drive or anything ..... mainly because it has the super slim drive.....

    Thanks,
