Well, I have just received my 1001P, and I'm not exactly pleased with it. As this is my second netbook (Samsung NC10), I can try to provide some comparison with my last one. The main issues for me, thus far, are unfortunately the same things that distinguish one netbook from the other: keyboard, screen, touchpad.

    1) Keyboard has a trampoline effect to it when you type. The issue is not so much "flex" as it feels springy. The NC10 had a much better keyboard.
    2) Two-finger scrolling is really laggy, and often just won't work. This was never an issue with the NC10 (which also had a Synaptics touchpad). The surface of the touchpad itself is fine, but if I can't two-finger scroll with any reliability it really hampers my workflow.

[EDIT: updated driver through Synaptics, http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers and this seems to have fixed the issue]

[EDIT2: the issue has recurred. After restoring from Sleep mode, suddenly two-finger scroll is laggy again.]

    3) This is my smallest concern, but the LCD is somewhat dim. At it's highest settings it is not particularly bright. Luckily it is a matte screen (the reason I purchased it in the first place).

I was worried about the keyboard. I will pass on this netbook then. Thanks for posting this.

    1) Not sure what you mean, I thought lots of people actually use mechanical keyboards because they want huge feedback and bounceback.

    3) Sucks... my 1005PE is glossy and extremely bright. Contrast seems amazing, I may have lucked out with one of the good 10.1"ers.

Glossy doesn't mean that it will be more bright, that is a function of the backlight. This model might just have a poor backlight. My NC10 was, in my memory anyway, brighter. Addressing your statement regarding keyboards, when I type I like it to be onto a firm foundation. I assumed all typists were like me, thank you for cluing me in on this. If you like a springy keyboard, then 1001P is a good choice for you. I don't. Note, though, that there is a different between what I'm describing and what you may be thinking of, which is the travel of the keys?

I'll temper the statement by stating that I don't think the trampoline/springy feeling is severe, but it is noticeable. I'll probably get used to it, if never come to like it.

Does eeeCtl work on 1001P to alter brightness?

The NC10, if I remember correctly, cost a tonne more than the 1000 line. And the keyboard bounce is easy to fix if you double-side tape the keyboard down.

eeeCtl works great to boost brightness, if you want that. Also, I read somewhere that samsung LCDs were failing due to aggressively high brightness settings.

Can anyone confirm that they have been able to get eeeCtl working specifically on the 1001P? The reviews I've read all say it doesn't work on the 1001P.
