I noticed that my laptop had been making a lot of noise from the fan vent area. This was especially obvious when the laptop was cold and disappeared slightly once the laptop warmed up. Applying pressure near the fan area can make the noise worse.

I opened up my laptop and found out that the fan was vibrating when I held it in my hands. I am assuming that the fan is badly balanced or there is something else wrong which only makes it noisy when it is spinning at lower speeds. I tried cushionising the fan with rubber bands, and that localised the vibrations to the fan only and the rest of the laptop was silent. Then when closing back the case, the noise started again because the palmrest area rests on the metal fan casing. The fan code is al follows : ksb0405hb ae72

This is a picture of what I did to try separating my fan from my laptop so that only the fan vibrates.

Any idea what I can do to either replace the fan or fix it up? Like I said, it seems to vibrate in my hands, even when I rest it against the laptop plastic body, I can hear the rattling sound.

    Thanks

Edit: my problem seems to be quite similar to this one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/576807-eee-1005ha-fan-grinding.html

Thanks for replying. I wanted to change it, but google returned no results when I searched for the model number of the fan...

So you mean I can just pull off the blades from the motor itself by pulling on the spindle of the fan head?

Yeah it's held on by a magnet, just pull directly up.
