    Hi,
I just got an Asus netbook with Windows 7 Starter edition. It has a 250GB hard drive, but the drive is listed as 2 different letters/partitions. The C:/ has around 100GB and the D:/ has 117 GB. Is there a way to combine both of these to make it one drive letter?

Yes but it requires some wizardry with the "Create and format hard disk partitions" tool

In the start menu type "Disk" (without quotes) and you should see the "Create and format hard disk partitions" option, click that open, when opened you should see 4 partitions, the two bigger ones as youve mentioned and two much smaller ones (recovery partition and express gate)

if your lucky, and the two big partitions are right next to each other, its as easy as right clicking the D partition, deleting it, right clicking the C partition and extending it. if however the recovery partition is in between the two larger partitions (like it was on mine) you first have to move the recovery partition (should be about 15gbs) to the right most side of the two bigger ones. after that is done you can delete the D partition and extend the C as I explained above...the whole process shouldnt take you more then 5 or 10 minutes :)

I mistakenly deleted the 2nd partition before moving the partition that was in between C: and D:. I'm not sure what to do from here. It won't let me extend the C: partition. And the partition that I deleted says 117MB Unallocated.

wait you deleted the 15gb partition? which partition was between C and D?

Edit: There shouldnt have been a partition 117MB in size...you mean 117GB? lol

Yes I meant 117 GB haha. I deleted my D: drive 117 GB, but I restored.
However, my C: and D: drives are not next to each other. There is a 20 GB partition sitting in between them, so I am unable to expand my C: drive. Is there a way to move this 20 GB partition all the way to the right, so that I can have my C: and D: drives side by side in order to do the expansion?
Or will I need a 3rd party program to do this?

Ok. So I'm going to move the 15GB partition so that my C: and D: are next to each other. When I click on the 15GB partition to move it, I get a pop-up screen with various parameters such as Volume size, Free space before, and Free space after. I'm not sure what to put in these boxes. Volume size says 15,360MB; Free space before says 2.31MB, and Free space after says 4.55MB. What should I change each of these to? Also, if gives me the choice of doing a Sector to sector move. Should I do this? Thanks.

Dont mess with any of the numbers that are there, leave them default, but yes you do want to move it sector by sector

Grr. If I leave the settings for the 15GB (Windows 7 recovery partition) at default and click on Sector by sector move, it won't let me proceed. The "Yes" button is greyed out. Do I have to delete my D:/ partition first? All my files are on C:/ and D:/ is 100% full so I just want to add D:/ onto C:/

Lol well that might be the problem, your saying your D drive is 100% full? Or just the C?

Take a few screen shots for me would you? Id appreciate it.

ok. I will take some screen shots. My C:/ is the bootable drive and has 100GB. With 13GB of free space left. My D:/ is the 2nd partition and is 117GB. It is empty; I have nothing on the D:/. In between the 2 sits the Windows 7 recovery partition. And there is a 4th partition all the way on the right, which is about 20GB.

Here are snapshots from Paragon Partition Manager 11

Why in safe mode? lol thats not necessary (not sure if its the cause of this greyed out option though)

Delete D, make it unallocated, then try moving the other partition, dont do this in safe mode. Also check your PM's in case that doesnt work.

I wasn't in safe mode. I booted up normally. It's just the classic windows theme I changed in the display settings to look like older versions of Windows.

Made D: unallocated. Still have the greyed out Yes in trying to move the 15GB partition. I will check PM.

    Hi guys !

I´m in almost the same situation with a brand new Asus VX6 that comes with the same partitioning.

How this finally resulted ? Could you managed to merge the C: and D: partitions ? Did the recovery partition retain its function ?

    Thanks !!
