I saw an 1101HA in a store today in Amsterdam. It looks amazing. Best looking netbook at the moment in my opinion. It looked very thin. There was a MSI X320 next to it which looks very similar but bigger.
With the overclocking function it should be fast enough.
Stores in Europe are showing stock now.

Nice. Can't wait till I can see one here in the U.S.
Were you able to play with it? -
I could have asked but didn't. I trust it will be good. Normal performance will be like Acer 751. Screen looked good. Probably also the same as Acer 751.
The three big pros I see over the Acer 751 are: sexier design, overclock function and a 6 cell battery that does not stick out. -
-
Just came across this:
http://www.liliputing.com/2009/07/a...the-ram-to-2gb-lose-ability-to-overclock.html -
Oops! Sounds like I need to get one soon and keep running XP on it
Now I've always been a fan of XP on netbooks so that may not be a bad idea! -
Nice find, Phil
How much were they selling it for in Europe? -
Store price is € 399,-. Lowest online € 368.
Same price as Acer 751 with 6 cell and XP or Asus 1008HA. -
-
I think so yes.
I would like to see confirmation though of this rumor about loosing the overclock availability. Sofar it seems to be one guy in Italy.
Hmm, just when I said I was not going to buy any new laptops this week I am very tempted...
Edit: There you go. Ordered it. Should be here on Monday. -
Excellent. We expect a full report.
-
does it come in different colors? I have only seen the Blue one.
We need a US release. This laptop seems like it could pack a punch.
Pics and reports would be fantastic. -
I haven't seen the blue one. I've only seen white and black.
-
When is it coming in?
These new netbooks are starting to reach laptop performance of a couple of years ago. -
I'm expecting my black one monday.
Ps. I've got a 3G modem in an Acer AO110. Could I put that in the Asus? -
Mine is coming today. Here's someone else's unboxing video:

Personally, I think the combination of the processor and the screen resolution seems off...I think most people would rather have a lower res screen with the same processor, and increase the battery life all the more. That way it will have no hiccups with pretty much any basic program, either.
On the go, I wouldn't mind the mid-res screen, and I'd just dock it to a bigger screen when I'm home, assuming I'd even use it at home...But the screen size definitely seems to be imbalanced relative to the processor. -
It's a good thing this Asus comes with an overclocking function. I wonder how stable it will be at 1.73Ghz. -
video was great but we need some more when it's on and some performance numbers.

I've got it now. Looks are stunning, except for the keyboard which is slightly different black than the rest.
Screen is a bit disappointing. Not bright at all and Eeectl not working. Contrast is mediocre. It's ok when I put the screen as much down as possible but it doesn't go down enough.
I'm going to try overclocking now. Let me know if you have questions because I won't be writing a review I think. -
Congrats Phil
Here's a few questions if you don't mind:
1. How's the keyboard and chassis? Any flex you've encountered?
2. Compared to other 10" netbooks, how does typing on the 1101HA feel?
3. Do you know what brand/model the screen is?
4. Probably too early to tell, but when you get a chance, could you comment on the battery life under actual usage? -
-
2. Good. not as good as Samsung NC10 but good.
3. Not yet.
4. I probably won't use the battery as I want to maximize my chances of getting a full refund of the reseller.
I think I'll send it back tomorrow.
Ps. It's not that quiet. Acer 751 is a lot more quiet. -
Actually I may have been a bit harsh on it. The screen is not that bad. Just not suited for outside. It's an AUOptronics 205C.
With Eeectl the fan is pretty quiet. -
can you post couple of pics next to mb?
-
But I can tell you, they both have crappy brightness -
-
I hope I get a full refund. -
The first three are on full brightness, than half brightness.
free image host -
it does not look that bad...
-
I would guess the 1101 has less than 200 cd/m brightness and less than 180:1 contrast. -
I'm glad to see my eyes were not deceving me. Notebookjournal.de just published their review of the 1101HA:
Helligkeit und Kontrast
durchschnittl. Luminanz cd/m² 129,00
Schwarzwert bei 100 cd/m2 cd/m² 0,54
Schwarzwert bei maximaler Helligkeit cd/m² 0,67
Kontrast bei 100 cd/m2 :1 185,00
Kontrast bei maximaler Helligkeit :1 192,00
Birghtness is very low (129 cd/m). What's even more surprising is that my brand new MBP is not much brighterYou can imagine I don't mind selling it.
-
it looks quite bright in the pics!
-
Don't trust pics for judging display quality. The pics were made with curtains closed.
They will seem as bright as the camera settings will allow. I'm running the 9CC2 MBP display at 1 stripe from the max indoors. Go figure. -
Well, I am always working on max, so...
Maybe you should exchange for better screen?
-
I'd like an MBA if it looked more like an MBP (black bezel, edge to edge glass). -
compared to Z yes, but to Dell x1340 and others it is in same group, even lighter then some.
