the answer to that is .... more like never....... I'd give Asus another two years before they are comfortable enough to even attempt something like that.

i agree, 12" barebone laptop's room and space inside is small, a good video will make hotter, the cooling fan cannot be handled!! i believe that the users will not choose a 12" LCD screen for video gaming or video editing.

Most 12" laptops are too thin to fit a dedicated graphics card inside....

    ......... I'd say it's a mix of a bunch of things.

    1. size... a dedicated GPU needs room (at least on the motherboard.. you're not going to get a seperate card in there obviously) and room for the fan that'll need to cool it.

    2. heat... that sort of goes with the above, but really it's hard to control heat on smaller systems, especially those with a lot of power (ie: V6/W3) ... to go smaller would be very very difficult.

    3. battery life ......... the smaller systems often have smaller batteries to keep size and weight down. If you throw in a dedicated graphics card, you're going to have to make the unit bigger to big the thing and for a bigger battery to make it usable. Afterall, what good would dedicated graphics be on a system like that if the battery, due to its size, can only last an hour?

The only 12 inch notebook you're going to find with dedicated graphics will be with apple ibooks and powerbooks, which if I'm not mistaken have a 32mb geforce fx5200. Not great, but much better than integrated intel. The next best thing you can get will be with the ATI mobile chipset.

Is a 32mb really better than the Intel GMA 900, 128 mb shared?

As a general rule of thumb, an dedicated card is ALWAYS better.

The 5200 in the 12 inch powerbook will drive up to a 1920 by 1200 external display. I am not sure what the GMA can do by comparison.

My Z63A lists a 2048 x 1536 external option. I'm not sure if that is any measure, though.

I think I steered us off topic... ;)
