at 500 it would be too expensive for a netbook.

might as well get an Asus UL30 for 700$.

400-450 would be the perfect price point.

I wouldn't even call this a netbook. Look at those specs: Dual Core Atom N330, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD and most importantly a 12.1inch screen size. It is somewhere between ultra-portable and netbook. 11inch display was pushing it, but 12 has crossed the line. But regardless of that I am actually thinking of getting one. For $500 it's a nice deal.

How do you guys think the Atom N330 stacks with Nvidia stacks up against a SU3500 core solo (Acer AS1410)?

depends on what you want to run. The dual core atom with the ion will wipe the floor with the core solo and the gma 4500.

But the core solo should be faster in everything else . Well i guess dual threaded programs they could be close toe ven.

You guys know that the N330 is two N230's stuck together, its not a "true" dual core.

Yup but it still gives a good performance increase in multi threaded apps.

I've been running a programing stack on the AS1410. It builds and runs my projects fine. The two things I would like is longer battery life and better full screen video.

I'm between a) keeping the AS1410 (works for me other than full screen video) b) getting something like the AS1810 or UL20a with the SU4100, or c) maybe the 1201N.

I'm assuming the 1201N gets longer battery life and the ION gets me over the HD video hump. I'm not sure if the Atom will kill me, but I'm thinking it will be fine. (I'm not expert though.)

one will let you do cpu intensive tasks and the other won't. big difference my friend.

I don't know about you but if i'm already putting down 75%~ of my budget on something. I would rather pay 200$ more to get a much better product.

I was looking at some benchmarks and it looks like the Atom 330 (620) should outperform the SU3500 (472). Throw in ION graphics and it seems like the 1201N should be worth looking at depending on the price.

I wonder what kind of test is "Passmark"? Looking at the results, dual cores get just about 2x the numbers. Quads get 4x. It must be really a multi-core friendly benchmark. I'm not sure if this is the kind of improvement you will always get when you use them in everyday use...

Still, I'd like to see 330 too... Oct 20th eh? :D

If that is true with the 330 outperforming the SU3500, which I am really doubting, then it with the 9400M graphics really piques my interest. Currently, I either have to choose between a weak Atom processor and 9400M graphics or CULV processor with weak Intel integrated graphics. Now if I can get the best of both worlds with this model....?

Well, the 330 is still benchmarked at 620 while the U3500 is at 482. I'm not sure if that holds true in real life usage, but my SU3500 does everything I need it to do except handle full screen video.

Except the UL20a has icky Intel GMA X4500MHD graphics. The 1201N should have Ion. I'm sure the SU7300 will trounce the Atom 330 but I will notice the improved graphics chip more than I will notice the CPU.
I wish more manufactures would realize that some of us would rather have good graphics instead of the latest and greatest processor.

Does anyone know if it is possible to add a 3G modem to this model?

(SIM card slot available/easily solderable/functioning internal MiniPCI-E slot?)

Also, does Snow Leopard go on easily? The Atom CPU would need some countermeasure to account for the new anti-Atom kernel check, but otherwise? I remember the N10J had some trouble...

Thanks for link! But weak review. Seems either they have the HA version, not the N since they say it's a 1.3GHz processor (Z520), and they don't have ION but think they do. I say this based on the CPU speed and this quote:

"You can see some stutter when plugged into a HDTV, but it’s still more than watchable."

That's unacceptable IMHO. If it were ION I thought it could chug through 1080p video just fine.

I would take the ION 330 over that combo, I guess it all depends on your needs.
