    Hi.
I am deciding whether to purchase a Asus - 14" Laptop Model: Q400A-BHI7N03 from Best Buy.
I would like to get some feedback from other members who have purchase this model.

    1. How is the performance? Opening multiple tabs, Streaming videos?.
    2. Battery life. How much time avg before recharging?. I understand the batter is a 4 lithium cell. Can this be upgraded (opening the back) to a 6 or 8 lithium easily?
    3. Can you easily replace the drive to SSD if necessary?
    4. The price at Best Buy is $600.00. Is that a good price for I7, 8G ram 750 hard drive?
    5. Any problems you encountered so far?

    Thanks.
    TC.

Though I don't own this model, I'd be happy to do my best in providing any information I can from a technical standpoint.

Since it has a 3rd gen i7 (3620qm), you'll have no problems whatsoever with common tasks like that. Gaming is another story, however, as this is not equipped with discrete graphics. The Intel HD 4000 will be able to handle some gaming though, and you have a fair amount of RAM.
I can't attest to battery life without personal experience, but a 6-cell battery w/ a 14" screen and no discrete GPU (but an i7) will probably get you right around 3 hours, I think. As for upgrades, you would need to contact Asus to see if there are any available - whether from them or from an aftermarket manufacturer.
There should be no issues with replacing the HDD as far as physical installation goes. When it comes to installing Windows, however, note that you might run into a bit of difficulty.
It's $699.99 from what I saw - and that certainly is a decent price. You can get something better equipped for around the same price or for $100-$200 more, though.
No comment, since I haven't used this. :D

    Thanks for your reply ProStar.

Your right the price is $699.00, my typo error.

My concern is whether this laptop model “Q” from Best Buy will receive technical support
I do not see this model reference(Q) on the ASUS official forum

Also I inquired online about replacement batteries from an Asus vendor, and their response is they do not carry batteries for model beginning with the letter “Q”.

Should I purchase this laptop with so much vague info on customer support of this model number?

You also mention there are better laptops (then my choice) for a little more $$.
Can you mention some these laptops?
    .
I will be traveling this spring and will be looking for a laptop that is not heavy and will give me more than 2+ hrs battery life.

    Thanks.
    TC.

Best Buy may try to push their one or two year support on you for it. If Asus is not willing to support the product (they should, as long as you can provide proof of purchase should you ever need support from them), I suppose you can default to that. It's not ideal, but it's something.

Chances are that you can find replacement batteries through other vendors/sources, but I really doubt you can find an "upgrade". You'll probably be stuck with the 6-cell battery.

As for recommendations - selling/promoting is not exactly my repertoire. ;) I should leave that up to other users. But let me just say that the resellers you'll come across here and elsewhere online offer comparable - if not better - models for a very competitive price point, that would be considered a step up from that model and a better bargain.

Honestly, you should buy this laptop while you can!
I just bought this laptop because my apple MacBook broke
& I was looking for a laptop for music production. Seriously,
This computer handles more of my stuff better then my ex-laptop.
You can also expand the ram to 16 GB which is incredible!
There are also laptops in it's price range with somewhat of the same functions
but this laptop is quad core! some other i7 computers are dual core.
It also gets a turbo boost up to 3.2 ghz! Yet, the graphics are standard,
and the screen looks like a computer from the 90s because it's LED.
Overall, this computer is perfect for how much it costs.
Honestly, you don't need a kickass graphics card & a HD screen unless
your doing video editing, designing,or gaming. This laptop is just right.

I purchased this for my daughter to bring back to college. I do want to install a SSD for her and retain the 750 hdd that came with the system. Has anyone seen a dvd conversion replacement, for this lappy?
