In my price range I have narrowed things down to 2 choices I think. After looking at many of them in brick and mortar stores, I think it is between the Asus or the HP. I have not done any extensive comparison though.
Has anyone here used both these laptops and if so, what is your impression of the difference between them in terms of overall quality?

I didn't write it down unfortunately. I am planning to go back tomorrow and will take notes.

I'm guessing that you were looking at either the X83Vb (blue) or the X83Vm (brown/gold).

If those are the Asus's you've been spying on, then they're quite on par with the HP DV4. However, there's one thing that bugs me quite on the HP - the excessive glossy touchpad which can make it hard to use at times.

if you ask me, asus is better in my opinion anyways, I got a 2 years of warranty and if your in north America you will also get 1 year of accidental damage warranty and 24/7 tech support, so far i am happy with my N81Vp-C1 the quality is very nice although the only complain is the keyboard but its nothing major
personally i tried sony and apple before I got an asus all of them were great but I like the spec of asus more
I dislike HP personally, I heard a lot of people complain about it

Went back to BB today and it was the model X83VM-X2 I was looking at.
Is there a model with the specs of the G50Vt but in a little smaller size?

No, the G50Vt comes with the 9800M GS which can only fit in a 15" or larger chassis. But, you could go one step lower in the GPU and get the N81Vp-C1 which will be much closer to the performance of the G50Vt.

Thanks. I will check into that. I may have relatively few choices though since when I do finally get one I will likely need to go with either NewEgg
or BB since I wanted to get the One Year no interest pay plan.

Note that with Bestbuy models you will not get the two year + accidental damage warranties. The N81Vp is available through Newegg.

Thanks That is very good to know. Didn't realize Newegg had that model.

Do you like yours so far? Good sound and image quality + reasonably fast bootup and apps startups?
