Generally speaking, how practical is it to use a V1 Asus 15.4" laptop in an average economy class seat on an airplane?

Is it a real pain due to its size?

Depends on the seat, but seats now are shrinking to around 18" across these days to fit more passengers onto fuel guzzling planes. Only something like a 12 incher is a comfortable size.

I find my 14" W3J spills a little over a tray table and I have to pull it closer to myself anyway to compensate for the seat in front of me in order to see the screen.

Delta has a new "Economy Plus" class (free upgrade if you're a Skymiles member) and it has about 4" more legroom and a wider tray table. I think you could accomodate a 15" laptop if you wanted.

I fly fairly frequently, Ive never had a problem with my 15.4"... or my laptop either XD. Hehe anyway, The one thing you have to be careful is to not put the screen to close to the seat in front, Ive seen people (and nearly had it happen) when the screen corner gets caught under the seat and cracks

I thought it was United that had the "Economy Plus." I didn't realize Delta was starting a version of its own.

im flying next month to idaho from DC... and just ordered my v1s...

im flying united all the way one connection Boeing 757 to 737... then canadair to a 767, ive read verious things about power ports on the planes...they say i need an EMpower connector...is that a standard cigarette lighter power adapter?

also with united when you goto check in you can upgrade your seat if there are any available, pretty cheaply...gives you the more room you guys were talkin about

You're right. And to think the only reason I knew about it is because I had just gone on one.

I got a free upgrade to an Economy Plus seat over Thanksgiving last year. They changed the plane from an A320 to a 757, turning my seat from a regular coach seat into an Economy Plus seat. The extra leg room was nice, but I didn't think the tray table was noticeably larger. I fly Delta to get home now with there recent introduction of the shuttle from MDW to LGA, and their tray tables are just large enough for my W3J but I still need to pull it closer to me to compensate for those that lean back in their seats.
