I was just curious about something, I know every manufacturer does this but Asus was the one that I was interested in. I was wondering if anyone knew what the naming scheme for all their laptops were? I see things like G51j , G51VX, ULxx, so on so forth. I tried google but no luck![]()

G series is for gaming while UL series are for portable and the N series are for entertainment
-
I'm guessing UL= Ultra Light.
-
G is for game as in gaming laptop.
UL is ultra light. So they will be light and battery will last longer.
M is multimedia but i believe you can just see that on asus.com
the number is for the screen size.
I dunno what the characters after the numbers mean but i believe it has something to do with the cpu in the laptop. -
the numbers after are the different sellers. RX05= bestbuy exclusive, the X series are for newegg, and the A1/A2 are usually reseller versions (gentechpc.com for example)
-
For the screen size, I'm just going to assume that the numbers are reversed.
G51 = 15 inch laptop.
G71 = 17 inch.
Interesting stuff! Thank you for all the replies~ -
well, not reversed. they just all start with 1, i.e the 16 inch is a G60, the 15 inches are G50 G51 and presumably next, G52 etc(like the G72, which is 17 inch not 27 inch)
-
Hm, so what would be the second numerical digit?
-
the revision in that series. the G50 was the first iteration, then the G51 was the second iteration, just like the G70/G71/G72 iterations. If there is another 60, it will be a G61.
-
lmao 27 inch laptop.... id buy it just for the stupidity factor
-
a 20lb 25" laptop probably wouldn't be out of the question for me.

Simply put, their naming scheme goes like this:
{Prefix} {Numerical} {Suffix}
Prefix = Series Name
Numerical = Screen Size
Suffix = Specifications of notebook.
There are a handful of prefixes, be it UL, G, U, F, etc. each of them are the series of notebooks. There is no real definition for each prefix, but they seperate notebook families.
The numerical value is the easiest, 2x = 12", 3x = 13.3", 8x = 14", 5x = 15", 6x = 16", 7x = 17"+
The suffix is the most complicated, it is the specification of that notebook, within that series. For example, in the UL series, the suffix A means that it has the 4500MHD graphics chipset, the suffix VT means it has decidated graphics(ASUS has always traditionally used A=Onboard Graphics, V=Dedicated Graphics, been this way for 5-6 years now) and Turbo33 feature. -

It's just really confusing. Google is your friend. -
ASUS Customer Care Company Representative
The naming schemes will vary every year for any given model line.
The initial letters will change often G/M/UL/UX/S/U/X
The primary numbers will often have direct relation to screen size.
The letter designation after number indicate which VGA is used.
The numbers after -X2/X1/X4/X5 are channel specific revisions. BBY is retail as it has RX nowadays.
The A/B/C models represent OEM or Asus configurations and revisions.
example:
G - Gaming or ROG line
50 - 5 - 15" inch
V - nVidia based card
-
X - Channel version
4 - config/revision number.
Unfortunately, we don't have a clear cut marketing rule for naming that I can share. We release close to 30 or more notebooks annually, so giving our model names get's challenging at times. -
