I have returned my laptop to Asus before the warranty expires at the end of july for them to solve the fan issue, which basically drives me nuts.

A2D fan issues have been widely discussed in this forum since August 2004, and no solution has really been found to work around it. The following threads discuss the issue:

    A2D cooling fan non-stop running

A2500D fan sometimes never turns off
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=4527

    About Asus's technical support attitude
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=10088

I would appreciate if the moderators of this forum could make this post Sticky for some time (one month would be sufficient) as I just mentionned the url http://www.notebookreview.com/ and the forum name 'Asus' to the technical support.

Plenty of A2D / A2500D notebook owners are waiting for a solution from Asus, so a little help would be really welcome.

    Thanks.

Hope they manage to fix it for you. Haven't bothered me lately since I started using RMClock, though, but that's no excuse for Asus. The way the fan worked OOTB was not to great in the first place and when you add the 'always on' issue on top of that I can easily understand why you returned it.

Here are the symptoms of the fan issue:
    • make sure the notebook is in AC power mode (not battery mode),
    • make sure you have SpeedswitchXP (1) running in dynamic switching mode or Power4Gear in Game mode,
    • notebook seems to work fine. Fan on at 55C, off at 50C.
    • sometimes however, the fan gets stuck, runs forever. Meaning your notebook temperature can go well below 50C but with the fan still on.
    • only cure for fan-always-on issue is standby, or reboot.
The fan can get stuck either after a few minutes of usage or after several hours. You've got to actually use the notebook to experience the issue, sitting in front of the computer is not sufficient. A good way to investigate the issue is to use the notebook to surf the net with SpeedswitchXP in dynamic switching mode - after some time, the problem WILL happen.

There's been plenty of very motivated people in this forum trying to figure out a way to stop the fan, trying to find a logical explanation for the fan problem, contacting Asus over the phone, email, in various parts of the world (Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey...).
    With no luck.

Various combinations of ACPI drivers and BIOS versions have been used but nothing cured the problem.

    (1) SpeedswitchXP doesn't recover correctly from standby mode and the CPU ends up running at full speed even though you were in Max Battery. This is a separate (and minor) issue and has nothing to do with the problem described here.

    • It can happen when running on batteries too.

Let us know how it all turns out.

Well, you understand we're all a bit skeptical about this...
I cannot try the drivers myself since my notebook is under investigation (precisely because of this notebook fan issue).

Can you confirm you did actually experienced yourself the A2D notebook fan issue before, and that the very new ATK driver makes the difference?
