I have bought an Asus A4760KUH, with AMD64 3200+. When I use it the temperature according to AsusProbe is between 46 and 58 degrees. But it still produces a smell of burned plastic and the keyboard gets hot. Is this normal for Asus laptops? It would be interesting to know how long lifetime it has since it's quite expensive. Perhaps an Intelprocessor would have been a better buy.

Well going with a P4 of an a64 and putting it in a laptop you're going for the greatest performance at the lowest price..... the reason that's that way is because an a64 desktop cpu doesn't belong in a notebook. The reason the battery life is so short has a lot to do with the heat that is produced. The notebook will work and you'll get a few years out of it, but that system isn't going to run cool and quiet..

However, that burning plastic smell seems fishy.... get your nose down on it and see if it's from the cpu or somewhere else...... it might be from around the hard drive area or something other than the cpu.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I'm not sure but it seems like it smells most from the modem/lan/usb area. Perhaps it has something to do with the USBmouse I'm using, an Asus Infra Red. But i doubt it is very powerconsuming.

Thats odd.. how old is it? I wonder if something on the heatpipe... like an cleaning oil or something might just be burning off....... very odd, but in that area there isn't much to burn.

As far as what the new M6 (Z70v) might look like, here is a picture of the palm rests of what is currently available.... the US and most of the world is on top.. and the bottom is from china and germany I think:

It's only one week old so it might be some "new computer smell". It's in the top right corner of the picture. But since most of the computer gets hot when I play the lifetime of the components can't be to long and that's bad when it costs 1300€.

Don't know exactly but the processor is around 50 degrees. Perhaps the memory is higher because the keyboard feels warmer than the area around the processor.

When I run Sisoft Sandra Burnin test asusprobe shows 250 degrees for a short while and then returns to about 50. But most annoying is when I run Tetris 4000 the temperature gets above 75 and the CPU Throttle starts, while new 3d games like Republic commando stays at ca 55 all the time. Anyone else with this kind of problem?

Tetris makes your system climb to 75c? wow......

Sandra is doing a burn in and what a burn in is meant for is to push the cpu as far as it will go... so you can be assured it's not going to die on you when you start to put it to work... 250c is way to high to even believe though...

But agian, i think we're still talking about the burning smell you have... maybe whoever built it left something inside.....light weight plastic from something... I don't know.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I have found the reason for the smell. It's only when it's connected to 230V AC. Maybe it's some coils or the battery that gets hot.

Did I miss something? Why do you have it hooked up to 230v?

Yes I'm in Europe...230V AC in the wall socket.
