    Hi!

I'm buying a new firewire soundcard in near future for semi-pro audio purposes and I'd need to know what firewire chipsets Asus laptops use. I have A6Va at the moment but I'm buying A8Js as soon as we get those to Finland.

Those professional soundcards have recommendations to be used with certain chipsets and I'd like to know what I have in order to buy a well functioning sound card :)

I've tried to look from the device manager but only says 'OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Controller' but nothing more specific (manufacturer and the model to be exact)

All help is greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks in advance!

The one in my V1J is made by Ricoh. If you check under the OHCI Compliant IEEE1394, you can find the Device Instance under Details. The part you're concerned with is the VEN_1180, which is vendor 1180 = Ricoh.

Typically, Texas Instruments is the best one to have, since it is the reference (much like having a NEC USB 2.0 controller is good, since NEC was the reference). Had no idea they made 'em, I was under the impression that they were all TI or VIA.
