    Hi

Basically was using the webacm fine up until today.

All of a sudden it doesn't seem to exist. In device manager there is an unknown USB device. I have tried re-installing the drivers, but the webcam isn't recognised at all.

This problem has happened once before and Asus had a look at it. Was told that the internal cable had broke. Would be very annoyed if this has happened again, because it would mean me having to take my Asus in for the upteenth time to get it repaired.

Anyone know if it could be anything else?

    Thanks!

I would try using the recovery cd you should have gotten with you pc. and wipe your computer to the "out of the box" state. It should work, you can backup your files on an external harddrive or cd's. If that doesn't work I would then bring it to get repaired again, sorry about that--hope i could help

Grr, was avoiding doing that. I had it clean installed about a month ago when it had to go in for servicing!! I have just gotten round to sorting everything on it!!

Uninstall and reinstall the device in the device manager. Since asus gave the "verdict" that the cable has been broken, it is better to take it for servicing within the warranty period.

Well it seems my webcam is now working. I booted up earlier today and got the new hardware discovered screen and it was looking for the webcam driver.

    All very strange.

Seems the webcam has disappeared again, and I'm again getting an unknown USB device. I've again tried re-installing the drivers but the webcam is not recognised.

Clean reinstall or take it back to Asus?

Probably take it back to Asus. Not sure if clean installing would help since the only reason you would clean install to fix your problem is if another program was interfering with it or such. Since reinstalling the driver didnt help and your cam is going on and off it might be the internal wire. I dont understand though so last time you sent it in they fixed the wire if so how is it broken again?

This laptop has been to repair over four times and I've had it for just under a year.

Trust me, its not me! I'm not treating it bad.

Well got the laptop back today. Asus said the laptop and the webcam is fine. They opened it up and checked all the wires etc and everything was running fine.

They say I should do a system re-install.

    Very strange.
