I was wondering what you guys think the battery life would be on the A8J. It has an 7600 so Im assuming 2-3 hours of battery life.

Yup definately, the A8jm should hit 3 hours with its 6 cell battery. The screen brightness should be set on low, and CPU and GPU should be set to long battery mode.

Hope this helps, btw 1-1.5 weeks to go before we see them! :D

    Thanks,

What I'm hearing from local (i.e. in Singapore) owners of the A8Ja is about 2.5hrs, with 3 hours tops (after using the asus software). Doesn't sound all that promising... the W3J has clocked for longer right?

6 cell battery for the A8jm, and a 8 cell battery for the W3J, the highest possible the W3J can get is 3 hours and 30 mins tops! (this is without undervolting, because you can't exactly undervolt it) Light tasks, no Wifi, and a reasonable screen brightness.

The average batterylife for the W3J is 3 hour 15 mins or so, give or take if you have WIFI on or doing something a little more intensive or just like the screen brighter.

The A8j should definately hit 3 hours. dunno 100% because its not out yet.

BTW once someone figures out a possible way to undervolt or do something to make batterylife longer, the max batterylife from gaming notebooks of this cailiber will only be 3.5 hours max. You will not see a Yonah with a X1600/7600 hit 4 hours yet.

Technically speaking if you couldn't undervolt the Pent-M, those notebooks wouldn't be able to hit 4 hours too. (some did hit 4 hours without undervolting tho) Majority will get 3.5 hours without undervolting.

Hope this clears some stuff for you.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Actually, Canada will be getting them in next week. My local vender will have it next tuesday. I already made a preorder for it. I can't wait!

I second Mr Golem's estimates. I haven't seen very many laptops using the new ATIs, getting close to 4 hours. Its the same story with IBM, Toshiba, etc. Although yes the Jm will be using the Nvidia.. I reckon it'd be similar.

would i be making a silly comment to say that the a8j with the go7300 will have a longer battery life than the a8j with the go7600?

i'm guessing it would.. its my personal reason why I'm looking more at the Z62j instead of the a8jc (the one with the 7300).

but in any case..we don't know if the US will bring in the a8jc. But we do know the Z62j is coming in! its also a 14" with the go 7300.. and for those who use an external mouse.. the vent is on the left instead of the right on the a8.

I made a test of battery life when I was writing my review and the results are :
with WiFi on+mouse connected via BT+some web surfing+word processing+display brightness on 1/2 during half time and 1/4 during another half laptop turned to hibernation after 2:55 and it had battery for additional 10 minutes.
So I guess without WiFi, without BT, display 1/2-1/4 and you should get 3:30 MAX!!

Is this the W3J or the A8Jm? If it is the A8Jm, i heard it doesn't come with BT in the north american version.
