    Hello everyone

It's a sad thing that my first post here is to worry about my troubles; I'd like to thank all of you who unknowingly helped me to make my purchase in early January (I browsed this forum religiously in search of opinions).

Bought from NewEgg, Jan 18, the A8JP ran beautifully. I had no complaints; the screen graininess I can live with (it's unnoticeable to me, thankfully), but otherwise, it ran like a charm. However, a few days ago I noticed, while typing a paper in Word against a bright-white background, a problem. To the left of the center of the screen are what look like oddly brightly-lit patches against any background, no matter what the colour. THese are not dirty smudges, nor are they pressure imprints from damage. They won't go away, and they have begun to annoy the heck out of me.

I've attached some pics of what the problem looks like. The photos understate the problem, but one can see the problem is clearly present.

Does anyone know what these are? I've heard talk of people describing "bubbles" remaining from improper positioning of the screen's plastic filter, but that's all that I could find (every search that I've done has only brought up problems of stuck pixels, which this is very much not).

I appreciate any help or advice given. I've contacted NewEgg about it, but I haven't heard back from them at all.

    Thanks in advance :)

I can barely make out what you are talking about, but it's definitely there. I am not sure what it is, but I would imagine that it's hardly user-serviceable. If you don't hear back from newegg soon, you might want to contact Asus (given your warranty status.)

unfortunately the real dirt on my screen is more noticeable to me than the area you circled.

I don't really see it, but maybe its there... Can't tell. If you think your screen is faulty, then get it replaced.

Someone I know had a similar problem... it was a line of white ... kind of like burn in. He had a Bestbuy warranty, so that screen was replaced readily. I really don't know how Asus or Newegg would handle something like this though.

While this isn't the smartest idea, I've tested screen issues with my sis' notebook by lightly pressing against the lcd to let it ripple a little (after cleaning it). If the whiteness doesn't move with the back-image, then it's definitely an issue with the lcd's plastic film, and should promptly be replaced. As for my sis', all that I had to do is replace the bios (no dead pixels, thank god), so it was resolved rather easily.

Ah yes. I also had those in my V6V notebook for quite awhile (4 months to be exact). I did some research and this is a phenomenon called "region mura", and it's basically contaminants getting under the glass. I don't think there's anything you can do. The good news is that it is only visible outside the viewing angle and tends to appear on brighter backgrounds (ex. white).

If you want to get technical, here is the PDF file.

At least you didn't get a dark one like mine. I got both white AND dark spot along the edges of my LCD screen. The dark spot is gray (about a mm in diameter) and appears in all colours except black. I didn't consult ASUS about the issue because I figure out that I can live with it.... for now. I also noticed that the spots will accumulate overtime.
