    Hi,
Firstly i've been reading posts here for a while which prompted me to buy a shiny new Asus A8Js last week so thanks for that!

No to my problem which i'm hoping someone can shed some light on.
I've used the laptop for ~5days with no problems. Installed a number of programs and games with no issues.
Last night I tidied up a few files, wrote a few DVDs and if I recall correctly installed a program called HideIP 3.21. Seemed to work ok. I only mention it as its really the last thing I remember doing.
I restarted and was greeted with a error box
"ACMON Error, Failed to prepare critical file, Chameleon Engine out of service"

    wtf?
then a windows error popped up for Skype, and the computer locked up.
Reboot, get the same, again and the windows toolbar had dissapeared. Even safe mode didn't help.
I pressed F9 on startup to recover winXP, which went fine and after a few restarts the problems I mentioned above started again. I had reinstalled HideIP again amongst a few other programs. The others are ones i've used previously always work fine.
This time I had to use the recover CD as the F9 partition recover kept looping and wouldn't work. Now the laptop is up and running again and seems fine, i haven't installed the program again.

Now then, the program seems fine, is there likely to be some conflict? Anyone heard of this? google searches show nothing

and wtf is a chameleon engine?

    Cheers for any help!!

Sounds something along the lines of that IP hider you installed? Not sure. Have you tried uninstalling it and see if that solves your problem?

I was unable to open any programs or navigate windows in anyway after those error windows appeared - which happened straight after startup. So I couldn't uninstall to check if it was, i'm hesitant to reinstall the program again to test it either.
I've read no comparable errors to what I saw neither have I seen complaints about that program so was thinking it was just a weird conflict with the combination of software. I just wondered if anyone had heard of it as it seems pretty weird to me.
I've been in work all day so will get the chance to play around tonight to see if it repeats again when I don't install the program.
