Anyone know anything about this new Vista model? Trying to find Vista model I can customize the HD (Seagate 100GB 7200 ) and Processor (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz; 667mhz w/ 4mb Cache).

Just saw this one listed on ProPortable, says it has a 14" WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Color Shine Glaretype LCD. Will that solve the problems people have had with the screens on the other models ( A8JS-4S024P )?

PROPortable does not customize Ensemble units. Check BTOTech at their website here for details on the A8Js customized option.

I don't know what you're talking about, but we customize them within the terms of the warranty. Meaning, if you want to keep the warranty with Asus that you're already paying for, you need to keep the original parts........ we'll customize the units however you like... always have, always will.

    Haven't heard of issue anyone's been having with the last model, but this is identical, just with Vista.... i d e n t i c a l.

Looks like I made a mistake, I had been reading posts about people having trouble with their A8JS screens but it appears that was either a previous model or from outside of the USA.

Thanks for the info on customizing, I was unclear that it would void the warranty to put the faster processor in.

Yeah, we'll do anything within the means of ensuring the customer keeps their warranty. Even those that want it customized and claim they don't care about the warranty...... or they'll accept a dealer warranty to replace it... they'll change their tune the second something happens to their system. We've simply tried to keep on the side that benefits our customers more... even if it means not giving them everything they may want - for their own good ;)

Yeah, I think there were some issues with the WXGA (1280 x 800) screens on the A8f's maybe?!

I was thinking in terms of the cpu upgrade rather than RAM/HD (which you all have clearly always done). My fault in not being more clear in my post; I didn't mean to imply otherwise in my response .

The AUO screens that people are complaining about were on the 4S023P and 4S034P models.

Note that there were not that many people who reported which screen they had and the model number, so it's not proven by any means that buying a particular model would guarantee you the preferred CMO screen.

Asus uses as many as 4 different screens per model... the more popular the model, the more difficult it is to maintain supply for certain parts throughout a run.... This is usually only seen between different markets or at the very most, between refreshes...... Most all of the systems for a given model are actually produced during a single model run which cycles through day to day and even goes brand to brand (depending on who they're building for).. We don't have any choice in the matter, but all systems use screens that were bid to a certain spec (like governement work - but better)... They're all tested on about as much as a screen can be tested in order to make sure they're basically identical in every way that's important.. So, although some people may have had issues with one screen over another, it's more of a coincidence than anything most likely and may be something that could get replaced under warranty if the issue is actually hurting the performance of the system. However, a handful of problems are going to hit any sort of device and those numbers would grow with the number of units made of a given model..... I wouldn't worry about it.

CS - no big deal, but honestly you'd be surprised at how even the smallest comments get blown up and become gospel to people reading through the forums... just wanted to add to what you said. ;)
