Hi all. I just got the ASUS A8Ja recently and was wondering what brand RAM you guys are getting with yours. I got a brand call NANYA when I opened up the back. The thing is, the RAM that comes with the ASUS A8Ja is suppose to be 533Mhz right? When I use CPUZ, it's saying my RAM is only 233Mhz. Could some confirm if this is normal. I got this Laptop in thailand and was wondering if I got ripped out. Thanks.

No u didnt, its ddr2 ram right? ddr stands for double data rate, which means that the 233mhz is running at 667 so that is absolutely correct.

Mine came with Nanya too, rated at 333Mhz so it runs at double the speed. If it says it's rated at 266, then it runs at 533Mhz.

Alright, Thanks all. I only have 512mb, do you think it would help significantly if I upgrade to 1gb?

I think it'd be quite helpful if you got an extra 512MB, especially since Windows itself (if you're using Windows) can take most of that up. The extra mem would help improve performance & speed up things on your machine.

how many dimms r there? can i add a 1 gb dimm in addition to the 2x512 default ones? or do i have to go 2x1 gb to get 2 gigs?

also, a general ram question: do all your dimms of the same specs have to be the same brand?

There are only 2 dimm slots in the A8J's... so you can't have 3 dimms ...

RAM have different specs etc, so you might have to check which ones are compatible and can work in dual channel mode
